In addition to the main building and the cottages there is a boiler room where a 60 horsepower boiler operates the hot water system and |the steam heating system. A dormi- tory has been constructed for the help, east of the hotel proper. This building is ‘about 50 feet long and contains 12 sleeping rooms and a bathroom. The cottages, of which there are nine in connection with the hotel, have practically all been taken for the entire summer season, and the list of reservations for accommoda- tions 'in - the -hotel proper-has been growing rapidly. D., July 2.---The crop gutlook throughout Nortliwestern North Dakota was never more favor- able than it is at present, accord- ifig to Gerry W. Hawes, Minneapolis, general agent of the Soo Railroad. A diving platform will be pro- vided soon for the benefit.of the bathers. The -bath house is already in shape. Rowboats have been put into first-class condition, and may be rented by the guests. George Kreatz, local contraetor, was in charge of the entire construc- tion. He had a big force of men on the job every day since the building was started. 'As many as 60 men were employed at one time. The plumb- ing was done by E. W. Bucklen, lo- cal _plumber, under the foremanship of Ray Bucklen. The Bemidji Sani- tary Engineering company installed the steam fittings. Electrical wir- ing was done by the Naylor Electri¢ company. Cement sidewalks and roadways were constructed by Good- man & Loitved. All painting was done by local men tunder the fore- manship of Harry Doyle. The 0. W. Sievert company laid the roof. Four artesian wells, which are to supply the entire series of buildings in con- nection-with the hotel, were drilled by John Ross, local well driller. Frank Higbie had charge of the.brick work and the construction of the fire- place. All carpenter work was done under the direction of J. H. Smith, local carpenter. : The Birchmont building committee appointed + by the Civic and Com- merce -association was divided into separate committees, each of ‘which had :supervision of a certain amount of work. B. W. Lakin looked after the construction supplies. C. W. Warfield and C. M. Bacon looked af- ter the furnishings, heating, plumb- ing and the installation of a private telephone line. Lakin'and Bacon al- 80 looked after the grounds and out- side work. F. 8. Lycan, who perhaps devoted more free time to the con- siyuction than any' other one man, luoked after the furnishing of the ho- tel proper. Every member of the committee has devoted practically two months of his time that the new hotel might be constructed in time to take care of the summer tourists. Much creditis due these men for hav- ing completed ' the construction on scheduled time. Birchmont is owned by local capi- tal entirely, there being about 175 stockholders in the company.
