‘NEWS OF THE THEATRES' ‘OUTLAWED” AT THE REX . THEATER ON SATURDAY Having speclalized in big preten- tious western' productions and hav- ‘ing several of the season’s greatest €uccesses ‘to His credit, Richard Kip- Jing, whose' elaborate special produ tion ‘of Alvin J.'Neitz's *‘Outlawed’” opens atthe Rex theater on Satunday maintains that the so-called “West- erns’’ ‘are by far the most popular pictures that find their way to the Bcreens of the world. “As theatrical seasond come and go,” says Mr. Kip- ling, “there are shont intervals dur- ing which other 'types of stories seem to ‘win the popular faucy to the ex- clusfon of all others; that is, of all others but the westerns. No matter what the prevailing taste for drama may be, whether it is society drama, underworld drama, rural drame of wild melodrama, the popularity of stories of our great west never seem to lesser. Whether it i3 because of the qiicturesqueness of the characters or the fact that western stories are thoroughly red-blooded American, I cannot say; but this has been clearly demonstrated to me: a good, whole- some western stary, well told and well acted is sure to recelve a royal welcome from American picture audi- “PECK’S BAD BOY” AT THE REX COMMENCING SUNDAY “Peck’s ‘Bad Boy,” coming to the Rex theater, in which Jackie Coogan shimes, contains many things other than comedy situations. Mr. Cobb had only a limited time for his tour and he was late on his route sched- ule. But after meeting Jackie, Cobb forgot his speaking tour. He remain- ed in Los Angeles one month and in that time, wrote the titles for Jackie's new picture, “Peck's Bad Boy,” which wilk be seen as a First national attraction at the Rex the- ater. Cobb's wit and humor has ad- ded many giggles to the Peck film +a the captions which are, accord- ing to the famous humorist, words such as Jackie Coogan himself would speak. “fi‘ I WERE KING” AT THE REX THEATER TODAY ‘William.
