FREEMAN’S SERMONS : | There has come to the editor’s desk a bound copy of the! little “Tribune” sermons written by Dr. James E. Freeman, for! eleven years rector of St. Mark’s church, Minneapolis. These; little sermons have appeared on the editorial page of the Sun- day Tribune for about four years. The sermons are full of| vitality and great truths, Inspirational, yet adaptible to every| practical phase of life, Dr. Freeman’s “sermonettes” have con veyed to their many readers the great importance of the relig: jous development in life. When a great city daily recognizes the place religion has| in the stabalizing and stimulating of the life of the nation and opens its editorial page to expressions of broad Christian thought and those ideals which have to do with the innermo; relations of life, it has taken a step which at once places it on : plane above the mere ‘recorder of social, political and economic| events, and becomes the moulder of character in the individual| and the community. ) | Dr. Freeman has appropriately named his collection of | sermons “Every Day Religion.” He has recently been cglled to to the rectorship of a Washington (D. C.) church, but his many | readers will continue to enjoy his weekly sermons in the Sunday | Tribune, which he is still contributing. f O . | MINNESOTA'’S PART IN RELIEF | Exceeded only by two other states in amount of grain do-| noted to the famine sufferers across the water, Minnesota has, | up to the present, donated forty-four cars of corn. Illinois and | Ohio exceeded Minnesota, and Indiana just equalled the quan-| tity given by the Minnesota farmers. This is a splendid record| especially when it is considered that Illinois raises four and a half times, and Ohio twice, as much corn as Minnesota. | On the basis of one dollar’s worth of corn being equal in value to $12 worth of food when it reaches the famine zones— and that is what it will represent—Minnesota farmers have made a gift equivalent to $250,000 in food for the starving| abroad. e This is, in proportion to Minnesota’s crop, a larger contribu- tion than any other state, This is a splendid gxample of the‘ good will of Minnesota farmers toward the stricken hrothe.rs,!‘ and demonstrates stronger than ever the universal ties which bind humanity. -0 ‘A hotel, hotel, a modern hotel.
