Washington, Nov. 20.—“Few peo- ple know that Uncle Sam employs| professional hunters for the destruc- tion of predatory animals, but the stockmen of Wyoming and other western cattle raising states are very familiar with the work of these men,” said Walter Willis, of Cheyenne. “These hunters run down and kill wolVes, bear and other animals which destroy stock, and also aid in the fight against smaller animals that destroy crops. \ “One of the most notable exploits of recent months was the trapping of a big silver tip grizzly bear by! Hunter Rowley, working for Chas. J. Bayer, predatory animal inspector of the biological survey at Lander, ‘Wyo.~ This grizzly had a record that caused the stockmen of that section to offer a reward of $100 for the death of the big silver tip. Private hunters were on the trail as well as Hunter Rowley, and the bear was finally caught in a steel trap, at-|g tached to a 24-foot log five inches in diameter. Mr. Rowley found fifteen head of 2 and 3 year old cattle dead |c. along the route. The cattle had been killed by the bear. Wolves are killed by putting out poison and by traps, and nbblts and other pests are killed by poison, traps and rabbit' drives, in which the whole countryside takes /. .J. part.” MANY MASONIC LODGES ' COMMEMORATE WASHINGTON (By Capital News Service.) . Washington,.Nov. 20.—Of inter- est to fraternal circles throughout the country was the observance by Ma-| sonic lodges generally of special services in commemoration of the Masonic birthday, November 4, of George Washington, the firgt celebra- tion of the kind ever held. It is planned to' make this ceremonial an annual affair. In view of the fact George Washington was made a Mason in the lodge at Fredericks- burg, Va., in 1752, the movement for' the wbservance of his Masonic birth| day was started by that lodge, it was taken up by the grand lodge of Vir-| ginia, and it spread to all English-| speaking countries. Especxal feat- | ures characterized the exercises con- ducted by the New York grand lodge, ! and the lodge at Fredericksburg. Of further interest in this connec- tion is the fact a meeting will be! held February 22 and 23, next, at Alexandria, Va., of the George Wash- ington National Memorial association, this being the annual meetmg. Th work of this association is to bring about the erection of a memorial to| George Washington, the Mason \vho, according to high Masonic officers, is ' the only president of the United) States ip history who was serving as master of his lodge while occupying the executive office.
