(Continued from Page One.) things of God, and Peier tells us we may become partakers of the Divine nature by being born’ again. You need this impartation_ of the new life in your soul so as to enable you to live up to your ideal. - Every unsaved man who studies the char- acter of Jesus and desires to live the life he asks-us to.live. realizes there must come some gracious’transform- ing power into his'lite. Let a man start out'to ‘live the kind of a life he knows he ought to live and soon- er or later something happens . to make him realize how far short heis of reaching his ideals. Here is a man who wants to bé liberal and he finds himself a - rasping, ' grasping stingy old skinflint. '‘Another man wants to be truthful and-he finds himself a liar. Another man wants to be pure and he finds himself a lib- ertine. . A man resolves to be sober: ‘and in a short time he falls off the water wagon. A man ‘wants to pray nd, instead of that ‘he cusses. ‘And many ‘a person after trying to live better and than failed have become discouraged and given up.. to live up to our. ideal we all need the quickening power of the new birth at the very center of our being. There is a life which has its center and spring in the Lord Jesus Christ, and this is the spiritual dynamic you need. Perhaps you say, ‘“Tell us how this takes' place.” That’s what Nicode- mus said, “Master,” said he to Jesus, “how can these things be?” And the wise-looking college professor asks today, “Tell us the modus operandi.” This is: one of the things we must leave with God. It is mot to be ex- plained, it is to be experienced. You may not understand.it but you can enjoy it. Can a man explain the phil- osophy of a loaf of bread? explain the growth of ta single flow- er- Tell meé how God creates worlds out of ‘nothing and then hangs them on nothing? No, I cannot explain the mystery of the new birth, but I can tell you of men who came into my meetings in dreadful bondage to sin and vice, and were made free and have been free ever since. They were born again. You can tell when you have been born again. Jesus said, blows and you hear the sound of it, but you cannot tell where it is going} to or whence it is comlng to from, || and so is everyone that is born of | the Spirit.” But I know the wind is blowing when I see the dust fly,| and the trees bend, and the windows rattle. And I know 1 have been born of God when the spirit of God is do-} ing his work in me. The Bible tells you very, plainly whether 'you have been born of God or not. In 1st John, 5:10 we read, ‘“He that is’ born_of God hath the witness il himself.” If you are born ‘of God:'you are walking in-newness of life. You have a different feeling toward God than you formerly had. As His child you call Him Abba Fa- ther. Your relation toward Goad is as relntlon of a child toward its par- ent. “Again in 1st John. 3: 15 we read, “We know that we have passed from death into life because we love the brethren.” * This is one of the strong- est evidences of our being born again, love for the brethren. - That means we'll love each ' other no matter whether we are Baptists or Presby- terians or Methodists. That means you will have to love me, no matter how hard it may be to do so. And if you love me youw’ll' quit knocking me and telling things sbogn me that are not true. ) Here is another test: that will tell | whether we have been born again, The Point Makes the Pen The Tempoint Pen has the point that won't weaken in the strongest hand or strongest ink:— Due to a special hardening process which also gives the .gold pen a steel-like hardness and flexi- Writes at first touck. The famous Wahl Comb Feed auto- : m‘twdly regulates 1st John 4, “Whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world.” Too many of you are overcome by . the world. and somewhat rebellious ,;when the evangelist says ‘anything . against card - playing and ' dancing and the; shows. You have ‘mot ‘been born again if you would rather play golf on Sunday than to go to church. If you had rather go anywhere.else.than to prayer-meeting you have not been born again. The trouble with a lot of penple who go to church is they seem to think that religion is summed up in going to church, singing hymns and perfunctory prayers. They . confine their religion to one day in the week and the rest of the time they lie, steal, ¢uss and covet. “Some people will do right- as long as it does not interfere with making money or hav- ing a good time, or rather, what they consider a good time. Hear me once more, 1st John 3:9, “Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin.” That don’t mean he cannot sin, but it does mean that in case he should yleld to some’ terrible temptation, he will not go on in that sin, but 'he will rather weep like Pet- er- over the fact that he has sinned, then shun it in the future. Too many make sin a regular practice in their lives. ‘Some of it is secret and they wouldn’t for the world have it be known, but God knows it. Secret sin will undermine the character until it brings a man to hell. And now 1 want to ask you the questjon, have you been born again? ‘Except you be born again you can< not see the kingdom God. back of you your life heen? What about the un- forgiven sins? - And an unforgiven sin is more than an item in the reg- ister, it is a poison in the soul. An old unforgiven sin has a deadly and deadening influence. Though sin may be done it is not done with un- til it issforgiven. You cannot take your sins into the kingdom of God.: The poison must be taken cut of the soul first, and this is done through the washing of regeneration. Do you want to see the kingdom of God? Then come to Christ and yield- ing yourself to him,’ be.born’again. To as many as receive Him he gives the power to‘become the sons of God. He is waiting, and you can come now.
