In addition to this mar-| ' o « -« =<« vee Wool, bright. velous fact the world’s record for pole vaulting has never departed from the United States and this year we should be more able than ever before to assert our supremacy. The Swedes, Norwegians and Danes are by far the best vaulters and jumpers abroad. C. Horleman of Christiana, Sweden, is the only- ser- jous competitor for our vaulters. He made a mark of 12 feet, 11 inches, in the falf of 1917, and a very good jump of slightly over 12 feet, 6 inches last year. Rasmussen of Denmark suceeded in“doing about 12 feet, 3 inches in easy fashion at the Danish championships last fall. "Word has continually come from abroad that Coach Ernie Hjertsberg of Sweden has been concentrating upon jumpers and vaulters since the postponement of the games to have been held in Berlin in 1916. The Olympic committee’s decision to take only six men in each event to Antwerp will play havoe with the pole vaulters. All pole vaulters have their good and bad days and when fiftecn of our best vaulters, all cap- able of doing 12 feet, 6 inches or better, line up for the final tryout at “Adrvard Stadium in July it will be an extremely nervous aggregation. Styles of vaulting and weather con- ditions will probably necessitate the taking of fcur men as they qualify in the tryout and the other two from performances of the present season. Our representatives will come from the various clubs and colleges. The clubs have the best jumpers but the college athletes will counterbalance this by being in better condition af- of progressive mind Installed motor- - ter a lang spring season. car departments and are now reaping | FOR RENT—Furnished room, In- The following men appear at pre-|a harvest as manufacturers of special quire 915 Bemidji avenue. Salesmen working In rural distarlcts used to sell an average of two buggies a day and more sets of harness. One prominent wagon builder sold $8,000.000 worth of horse-drawr vehicles In 1896. In 1005 they stopped manufacturing them and concentrated thelr production fa- cllities on motorcars, which they had gradually developed as their wagon trade decreased.
