I wish popularity; but it is that popularity which follows, not that which is run after—it is that popu- larity which sooner or later never fails to do justice to the pursuit of noble ends by noble means.—Lord Mansfield. Presidents Who Were Masons, - Masonic records of the early prest- dents are not complete. The follow- ing presidents are listed as Masons: ‘Washington, Adams, Jefferson, Madi- son, Monroe, John Quincy Adams, Jackson, Harrison, Tyler, Polk, Taylor, Plerce. Buchanan, Johnson, Garfleld, Arthur, Cleveland, McKinley, Roose- velt and Taft. Whales That Walked. Whales used to walk. That is the statement of Prof. d’Arcy Thompson, authority on fishes of the sea, in a lee- ture on that subject at the Royal in- stitution, London. He said the whale originally had four feet or fins, but that the two hind ones had simply dwindled away. In bygone ages an- cestors of the present family of whales walked about much as seals do. Value of Quick Decision. As a rule the man who has tralned himself to quick decisions and prompt actions follows close to the right. He does not need to debate questions as does the man who has become a mas- ter of deliberation. His mental facul- ties seem to work automatically and they are generally right. I'm not sure but that they are more often right than they are with the man who is constantly weighing pros and cons and becoming confused with the issues. He saves time because he acts quick- ly and he saves everybody the un- certainty of indecision. e - — THE BEMIDJ) VAILY PIONEER 'DEMOLISHING FAMOUS: BRIDGE IN PARIS « ¢ This photograph shows the demolishing of the famous de la Tournelle orftlge over the Seine in Paris to make way for a modern structure. %wal !, The telephone husiness of Shanghat | has Incrensed so rapidly that it has built in 1656 during the rbign of Louis XIV.
