PAGE SIX TIONISTS WILL CURB PALESTINE LOAN SHARKS (By United Prass) " Chicago, Sept. 17.—The proflteer -and loan sharks will be eliminated from Palestine, the new Jewish na- ‘tion. This was decided at the twen- ty-second annual convention of Zion- ists Organization of America, in ses- sion here today. To eliminate these evils the con- vention decided to recommend that all land held by the state public util- ities be ownéd by the people and pri- vate industries operated by the state. TONNAGE TAX WILL BE PASSED BEFORE LEGISLATURE QUITS (By United Press.) St. Paul, Sept. 17.—Senators fay- oring the lmposmon of an iron ore tonnage tax on northern Minnesota mines predict that the measure will be passed before adjournment. ‘The house indulged in a bitter wrangle this afternoon over amend- ments to the primary law. MOOSE MEET TONIGHT. There will be regular meeting of the Moose this evening in the Moose hall at the regular time. A mn at- tendance is desired. Paimerston. In the first place, it was always as- serted, with emphasis and even with acrimony, that he (Palmerston) was not a whig. Gladstone, ‘who did not much like whiggery, though he often used whigs, laid it down that “to be a whig a man must be a born whig,” and I belleve that the doctrine is abso- lutely sound. But Palmerston was born and bred a tory, and from 1807 to 1830 held office in tory administra- tions. The remaining 85 years of his life he spent, for the most part, in whig administrations, but a whig he was not. The one thing In the world which_he loved supremely was power, and, as long as thils was se- cured, he did not trouble himself much about the ‘political complexion of his asaociates.—G.' W. E. Bussell. RICH CHINAMAN SLAIN: - THUGS USE IRON PIPE| (By Unlted Press.) St. Paul, Sept. 17.—Police today are trying to discover a' motive for the murder of Moy Lum, aged wealthy laundry man, killed with a heavy iron pipe as he slept, late last night.
