SCHOOL BIDS TO0 HIGH. Moorhead, July 8.—With all bids showing the cost of Moorhead’s pro- posed new school approximately $25,- 000 greater than the board of educa- tipn is authorized to expend, it is probable that no work will be done] on the city’s school this year, accord- ing to W. B. Melander, a member of the board. The city authorized a $50,000 bond issue and the lowest bid received on the proposed building was $76,000. BEMIDJI SAILOR WELCOMED. Washburn, Wis,, July 8.—Mr. and Mrs. F. A. Bell held a homecoming celebration at their home in honor of their sons, Remsen Bell, who has been discharged from the navy, and Hurlbert, who returned from army service. A Both men have seen active service. Remsen Bell was stationed on U. S .8. Kansas as chief commissary steward in charge of the supplies. He was responsible for the daily supply of food for the men. TAKES NOTHING FOR GRANTED Buccessful Inventor Studies Over and Improves Upon the Ideas Evolved by, Others. The editor of the Scientific Amerl- can recently Interviewed an Inventor who for some years past has produce: an average of one new device a week. The man's ideas are not limited to any one fleld, for his inventions include a propeller of new design, a dustless ash sifter. a novel game, and hun- dreds of other different devices. His theory is that inventions are general- ly due either to accident or to care ful study. Many of the leading in- ventlons can be traced to a chance remark, an acciden: or & peculiar inci- dent; indeed, there 18 a wealth of ro- mance in the history of Iinventions. But the greatest mental stimulus of all is refusing to admit that the given thing is perfect. No matter how good it is; no matter how apparent its per- fection seems, or how long it may have existed in Its present shape—it can and it must be improved. Thay makes for! progress. The Scientific American tells of another inventor who refused; to ‘Consider the violin as a perfected instrument, despite the fact that it has not changed Its form in the last 300 years or more. Not long ngo he brought out a new type of violin that met with instant suc- cess. Another man believed that shoes are far from perfect. Why should they mnot be ventilated? Physicians say that lack of afr accounts for most foot troubles. Why not let the feet breathe? The man went to work and finally perfected a simple shoe ventl ‘lator. The true Inventor takes noth- ing for granted. Perfection, to his wey of thinkinz. Is only a compara- tive term., His job is to make “per- fect” things =til more perfect.— Yout npunion. ‘OF BEMIDJI, MINN. June 20th, 1919. called to meet at 8 o'clock P.
