. robbers .having jail FUND TO EQUIP AND # MAINTAIN NORMAL (Continued from Page One) donating them the privilege of voting at presidential primarfes, and now they are getting ready to storm the capitol to put over the bill which gives the soprano section of the fam- ily the ballot at elections for town- ship, village and city elections. To Ask Amendment. Ed. Rako’s drainage bill is still in committee, where an amendment is likely to be tacked on, allowing small ditch projects to be put through with- out a vote of the people, but making a vote necessary on the bigger pro- Jects. Senator Nord’s big colonization scheme wil be a special order in the senate on Friday, and we think the genial Leonard has a sufficient num- ber of votes: mobilized to put it across. It is the sweet patootic of all projects to benefit Northern Min- nesota and will be of wonderful bene- fit in putting farmers on the idle acres, The bill to boost members’ salaries from one to two thousand dollars met an inglorious death the other day, but not because the members were against, it. The southern members had to vote against it if they intend- ed to return to the legislature, but they would have shown no visible signs of pain had it passed without their votes. The majority of the northern memoers votéd for it, and it i8 a good bill, as it would encourage men who can’t afford to come down here at the present salary to get into the game. The bill legalizing certain Koochi- ching county warrants which are now a drug on the market was safely piloted through the senate by Mr. Nord, and F. J. McPartlin will chap- eron it through the house this week, which shouldn’t be gloomy news for the lads who are holding a few bales of them. Dry members who were in danger of being drier than ever after the hquse went on record as being in fav- or of near beer that would be about as near beer as Christmas is to the fourth of’ July are seeing relief in sight, as the senate intends to allow two per cent, with the proviso that it can’t be inhaled on the premises where it is bought, but that won’t prevent some of the prohibitionists from filling their cellars with it. A certain element down here is seeking to state the stake to a law providing that real estate dealers are to be licensed, and frankly we think it is a vicious measure. It will give a little ring down here a weapon to whack rival real estate men, and we think it ought to e killed. Chenev In Wrong, Charley Cheney is the greatest political writer in Minnesota, in ad dition to being one of the best scouts in the state, but he learned to his sorrow this week that he needs to brush up on his geography. In a writeup Charles wished Representa- tive Enstrom of Roseau onto Warroad and in about three days the Journal inherited a night letter that looked Hke a census of the lake burg in which they made it plain that they didn't own Enstrom, didn’t want to own him, and that Roseau was en- tirely welcome to him. Enstrom is a Townleyite, and a socialist, who votes wrong on everything that he possibly can vote wrong on. He even voted against the Babcock road law, which didn’t make a hit with War- road, which is boundéd on one side by the Lake of the Woods and on the other three by bad roads. Holdups and other stylish idiosycy- qrasies (we’ll bet that one drives you to the dictionary) are still the order of the day (or rather the night) in the Twin Cities, and are being staged on prominent streets, where the volice ought to be put never are. Resldents are being robbed of every- thing but their false teeth and their second citizenship papers without the cells wrapped around them, and about all the police say Is that things might be worse But they couldn’t be. SPECIAL MEETING TONIGHT. Announcement was made this afternoon that Dr. J. P. Craig will be in Bemidji this evening and will con- duct tlie Methodist mid-week prayer service at the E. R. Evans home, 611 Minnesota avenue. This will be held instead of the usual Thursday night meeting. © Too Cool for Comfort.
