F | PAGE FOUR DRY MEASURES FLOOD HOUSE: TONNAGE TAX ACTION NEAR (Continued from Page One) e e to St. Paul aeroplane trip the other day, and we wouldn’t mind tackling it if they would let us keep one foot on the ground. But as long as they fly at a distance that’is a million jumps up and only one jump down the army officers ‘are- welcome to all the fun they can get out of it. The Grind Begins. The legislature has been jogging along at a leisurely galt, but this week it began tne real grind, and from now on will toss out about a cartload of laws a day. . And new members who thought they were coming down to a picnic are dis- covering that being a member of the legislature is pleasure taken with suicidal intent. g And if any of you have the idea under your hats that being an office holder is a soft job we would like you to toss an eye on Oscar Arneson, the chief clerk of the house. A lot of chaps think that all Oscar has to do is to elevate his trilbys on his desk, smoke good cigars and boss pretty girls, but as a matter of fact he is busier than the well known one- armed paper hanger with the hives. Besides keeping track of all the bills, he talks to ahout seventeen members, dictates to two stenographers and orders around six messengers, all at the same time, and never loses his temper. The only vacation he gots is at night and then he directs opera- tions at his factory, which is manu. facturing gasoline saw rigs that wii revolutionize lumbering operations, 8o that isn’t much of a vacation after all, Two Countv Agents. Beltrami county is again sure of its two county agents. The law which provides a brace of agents for certain counties came near being as- sassinated last week, but it came through finally. With the session half over it can safely be said that the gents who are steered by Mr. Townley are not mak- ing an impression strong enough tc dent a pound of butter. The awful dish of spaghetti into which North Dakota has tangled itself makes the Minnesota members gunshy of anjy thing proposed by the nonpartisan members, and few, if any, of their measures will be on the law books when the members pack their grip: for home next month. Normartisans Balk. The bill providing conventions "oi the pomination of state officers passed the house with a whopping majority the other day. The nonpartisant members set up an awful holler aboa going back to the old conventiol system and they stated that the law was almed at them. Other membexs told them that they were regula. Sherlock Holmes when it came t guessing, and they were forcibly i not politely told that they put fortl their candidates at conventions, and that what was soup for the goose wa: consomme for the gander. J. I, McPartlin is having the tiume of his life with his bill to provide a1 experimental farm for Koochiching county. It looked the other day i committee as If it .was all ready foi the undertaker, but Mac got hi: noodle working, and succeeded it having a reprieve donated his meas ure, and it is still able to sit up ant take punishment Wide Sleich Law. The lawn in front of the capita looks like a lumber camp, all drapec with logging slelghs for a demonstra- tion before the lawmakers who are considering the bill to have sleighs & universal width, the same as autos Manufacturers and some farmers ob ject to the extension in width bu! the bill may pass. Rako Is “Noticed.” Iid. Rako, the big, good-naturec member from Beltrami, continues tc keep in the good graces of the mem bers. He sits up in the front row with his lanky frame scattered over two or three chairs, and with ar eagle eye watching every plece ol legislation. He is wearing well, and his opinions are being sought. Re doesn’t make many speeches, but you can't tell the pulling power of a tug by the noise of its whistle, and other members are taking to Edward, be- cause he totes around in that head of his a lot of horse sense. Food prices are dropping a tride down here, but this is offset by the increase in the price of nose polisk which has “riz” to the palatial price of twenty-five cents a sniff mr COUGH By harving yoar system in good condition. Take Kerr’s Flax- Seed Emulsion, Linonine, as a preventative, This well-known remedy restores vitality and builds up the system to a' full health standard. Linonine should always be taken at the first sign of a cough or cold, as it overcomes the cause and re- moves the danger. Best remedy known for bronchitis, 1 recommend Linonine to all who are in need of a strength builder, or who suffer fly om ’hm’x))(hxlialgm Il,un;: trouble.—~Rev. H. J. .ynch, Pastor St. Peter's Conn,,’ 1886—1903, Chuisch, Daabusy, Linonine has my hearty endorsement, both as a builder for run down people and as a cure for coughs, colds and bronchitis,—John R. Winnipeg, March 5.—Canada_ is concerned about the United States government $2.26 wheat price guar. antee. The dominion is likewise worried over its own wheat prospect. A de- putation- from the dominion, headed by A. Marhag, ‘M. P., president of the Saskatchewan Grain Growers’ assoéiation, visited England in an ef- fort to arrange in advance sale of the coming crop at prices as high as those guaranteed by the United States. The mission failed. Canadian growers finally disposed of last year’'s crop at the guaranteed price of $2.24 1-2 a bushel, but the uncertainty of this year's price is doubled. Alberta and Manitoba grain growers have not asked a fixed price for this year’s crop but Sas- katchewan growers are strongly iu favor of it. . While the United States is ready to risk $1,000,000,000 on its wheat crop, Canadian officials believe there is not justification for risking three hundred millfon dollars in a guaran- tee for Canadian wheat. Wil Not Read Bible tn Schools. The Atlante-board of education at & recent regular inceting reversed its ac- itlon” which ordered the reading of the Bible and repeating the Lord's prayer fn the public schools of the city. This dction was taken by the board after having heard read the address of the late Senator Joseph E. Brown, war governor of Georgla ‘and the first president of the Atlanta board of edu- cation, which was delivered in 1873, and In which the Georgia senator de- livered an argument against éntordng the usce of the Bible in the schools, WANT AD DEPT Advertisements {n this -column cost half cent a word per issue, when paid :ash in advance. The urine becomes cloudy; the bladder is irritated, and you may be obliged to seek relief two or three times during the night. When the kidneys clog you must help them flush off the body’s urinous waste or you’ll be a real sick person shortly. At first you feel a-dull misery in the kidney region, you suffer from backache, sick headache, dizziness, stomach gets sour, tongue coated and you feel rheumatic twinges when the weather is 5 z . . Eat less meat, drink lots of water; also get from any pharmacist four ounces of Jad Salts; take a table- spoonful in a glass of water before breakfast for a few days and your kidneys will then act fine. This fam- ous salts is made from the acid of grapes and lemon juice, combined with lithia, and has been used for generations to clean clogged kidneys and stimulate them to normal activ- ity, also to neutralize the acids in urine, so it no longer is a source of irritation, thus ending bladder weak- ness. Jad Salts is inexpensive, cannot injure; makes a delightful efferves- cent lithia-water drink which every- one should take now and then to keep the kidneys clean and active. Drug- gists here say they sell lots of Jad Salts to folks who believe in over- coming kidney trouble while it is only trouble. WANTED—Experienced girl for gen- LOST ARD eral housework.
