No man ever !gié’ttuly carried the fate of ‘a nation upon his shoulders. He strove against disappointment, difaster, lack of funds and material, inefficient or disaffected aids, English-propaganda at least ‘as strong as the German propagarda of the last few years, and through it all he looked forward with high faith and courage to.the ultimate destiny of the United States. After the war a task of the utmost difficulty confronted him in the rehabilitation of a'country worn by war, lacking financial credit at home and abroad and disturbéd by factional . differences. Here; aldo, his wisdom and patience brought their results. It is directly to him that we owe our liveg of comfort and liberty. - G . . W are again in a time of reconstruction after war. Our probiléms-are different from' those which confronted Washing- ton and his'time, but no less disturbing, It is for us to attempt to'midet these problems with his spirit of foresight and patience - 7and ‘wisdom. . So shall we behold, as he-did, 3 gteater and ° more beneficient America. = § b i o2 e . Deputy of Kansas City, Mo., who has begn named president of the new normal, says: I am looking forward with much interest to the development of the normal schobl and hope to co-operate iin every ‘way possible with all concerned to the best educational welfare of the community . and state.” : He has also advised us a dut and brief history of himselt will be forwarded in a few day§, A & The letterhead of Presidept Deputy’s reply contains the gtatement that he is director of teachers’ training and extension; - work of the Kansas City public schools.
