POSTUM | astheir table bev- | = Clnldren lee It What might seem at first glace to be an almost impossible task is the project to open the Atlantic ocean direct to Duluth and the head of the lakes, but a closer scanning shows that gigantic as it would seem, it is really a very simple matter and one:that would open the markets of the great northwest direct to eastern and European ports. Every conceivable industry, incident to the northwest, would have equal advantages, cereals, live stock, dairy pro- ducts, the ore of the great iron mines, the manufactured pro-|{ ductsiof :Duluth and other cities. Not alone is this a local nor even national proposition, but has the hearty co-operation of Canada in the new order of things, now that the proper spirit of unity prevails. Enlargement of the Welland canal and the canalization of the St. Lawrence jointly by Canada and the United States would bring about a saving of millions and would be second only tothe Panama canal. In the past, the iron and steel industries of Duluth have felt the discrimatory hand of eastern competition and the “plus” rail rates have had their dire effects. The water highway would eliminate all this, rail rates would drop and thousands of others, farmers included; would benefit from the direct service. ‘This project should merit the hearty support of the entire northwest. ° It Pays: w‘.Rea@; Adverhsaments JUST FOR 'SA’”TURDAY--‘-#‘ -this week for instance, we.have onnsalea these’ many “specials: as. well' a&a' many others: nat*adverflsed Children’s .
