He had been working on the M. & L railway passenger train, when taken down with the influenza and was sick about a week. The af- fliction turning into pneumonia and later to spinal meningitis, which was the cause of his death. The end came very suddenly, on Friday, No- vember 15, at the home of his par- ents,’ Mr. and Mrs. Otto Simons. Edwin was the eldest son in the fam- ily'and at the date of his death was 17 yedrs, 6 months and 6 days of age, having heen born at New Ulm but had- lived here the greater part of his-life. He was greatly liked among all and will be greatly missed in our midst. He leaves to mourn a father, mother, two sisters and one brother. Garlock and the child was taken home Saturday. Those suffering from the “flu” are, Albert North and family, Mrs. Ross Anderson and son, Alma. Mr. and Mrs. D, A. Whiting and their three children. The school board-has decided not to reopen the Spur school for an- other week, although there are no cases of influenza in the vicinity. Charles Gerlinger is still stationed at an army post in France. William Gerlinger spent the day in Bemidji Wednesday attending to busi- ness. We are all greatly pleased at the turn in the war conditions and we hope the people will see the wisdom of sooner or later giving the railroads back into the hands of the owners. Whereas, by a resolution duly passed a Special Election is to be held in sald city on the 21st day of December, 1918, at such Special Electlon the electors of the city may vote upon the *Proposi- tion to issue Waterworks Bonds, by the city, in the sum of one hundred and twenty-five thousand dollars ($125,000.- G0), to draw not exceeding five (5) per cent interest, payable semi-annually, and mature on January 1st, 1844, for the purpose of constructing, extending, enlarging and improving the Public Water Plant and Waterworks System owned and operated by the City,” such bonds to be issue for in such amount as is set forth in such resolution, and such resolution has. been approved by the mayor, attested to by the city clerk and is in full force and effect.
