It is practically certain that an oversub- scription will be recorded in every county. activity is not a.determining factor as to any man’s 100 per cent loyalty or patriotism. The quantity and limit to which he may at least a financial ‘interest in: the government-and the success of the war. & Minnesotans will have qgccasion' to test their loyalty and patriotism aside from the financial gspect of the matter. They will be. obliged to give up many personal, social and political preferences in their effort to back up the government; also to encourage those in our state who'have taken- a leading and commanding part in 'making our state ready and efficient for the war, and in promoting loyalty and patriotism. Public men of this class are always criticised by the thoughtless, hounded by self-seekers and worried by demagoguery in all shapes and forms until it often means the sacrifice of private business, so- .cial and.political prospects to take an unqualified stand for any proposition. that will be necessary to bring the state up to. a strong point of efficiency for war purposes and to a state of en- thusiastic patriotic sentiment. Minnesotans are sure to study the matter carefully before they go on record as being opposed to any public man who has done his full official and patriotic dyty and to register such a fact before a critical world. Our state is enthusiastically sup- porting, as a whole, any .man or measure that is opposed to kaiserism in any shape or form. The line is drawn and the issue is clean cut between the friends of disloyalty, half hearted and selfish patriotism and the friends of one hundred per cent Americanism, that is pure and unadulterated by any personal or political interest of any kind. - : We must win the wart —_——— THE RED CROSS APPEALS TO YOU. The Red Cross is making its second appeal to the gen- erosity of the country, and it is entitled to a.most favorable hearing. There is no organization that has done so much to promote human comfort and: relieve human sufféring. Be- sides caring for our wounded: and making life endurable for them during their convalescence: in the battle-stricken and comfortless regions of France, it has relieved and helped the hopeless and destitute refugees of Belgium.and France. The world knows how well it has performed its undertakings. This, if ever, is a timé to give according to your means. ——0 Mr. Noah was the first shipbuilder on record who worked according to specifications. But if we may. judge his craft by the models which we often see in thetoy shops it would not in these days have answered even for a river boat. The $1,900,000 increase to be received by the railroad employes will come in handy to meet payments on their Liberty bonds. There may even be.a surplus for thrift stamps, Red Cross and Y. M. C. It will cost twenty-four cents an ounce. ‘At that alove-letter would be cheap at the price. 5 BN e It is reported that the former czar and his family were forced to move May 1. People who have experienced the joys of moving will be inclined to accuse-the Russian powers tha be of cruelty. ' . —_————— The Germans are a musical nation.
