When the new building is completed, the question of extending the mail delivery in Bemidji will be taken up in earnest, so as to include the Fifth ward, formerly Nymore. It is asserted such would be much more satisfactory, allowing for a substation in the Fifth ward for the purchase of stamps and money orders. When the proposition came up in the council some time ago for the establishment of a light at the point where the mail is thrown off an M. & 1. mail car for the Nymore postoffice, it brought out a phase not gener- ally known, and perhaps known to only a few. The postmistress wrote a letter to City Clerk Stein of Bemidji asking that the light question be brought before the city council. Clerk Stein referred the letter to Mayor Vandersluis and the question was by him turned over to Alderman Smith of the Fifth ward to bring before the council. It has been asserted that the mail sack was often thrown into a ditch, owing to the mail clerk not being able to see the man, waiting for the mail to deliver at Nymore, and this was stated in the discussion com- municated to the council, as brought to the attention of the city- authori- ties, and afterward it was learned that Nymore is not on a railroad at all, and that it was practically a matter of courtesy that the M. & I. road hud been delivering the mail. The fact is not known as a rule, the public not having occasion to give it a thought how Nymore received its mail. The road deviates from the old village of Nymore and is the only means of the Fifth ward receiv- ing mail from a train. The co-operation of the M. & I. in this deserves the co-operation of the city in providing a light at the point ln question and no doubt this will be done as winter is approaching.
