OFFICIAL PROCEEDINGS OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSION- , SEPTEMBER 25th, 1917, -The Board of County Commission- ers met as per adjournment, on Tues- ](e:y. Sept. 25th, 1917, at 10 o'clock A. Present: A. E. Rako, H. B. Imsdahl, J. F. Hayes, S. W. Ellis, Absent: William Lennon. The minutes of the previous meet- ing were read, and on motion duly sec- ond;d and carried, were approved as read. A communication from D. P, Tierney, Acting State Forester, regarding peat fires in the northern part of the county, was received and read. It was moved by Hayes, seconded by Imsdahl, that the commissioners of districts containing unorganized terri- tory, be authorized to look after and keep under control such peat fires as gght occur in such unorganized towns, al to employ such help as may be necessary for the purpose, and that the Auditor be instructed to notify the Town Boards of organized towns that it is their duty to care for such fires as may occur in their townships. Car- i The resignation of Nils A. Otterstad as Btate Land Appraiser was received, and on motion of Ellis, seconded by Imsdahl, the resignation was accepted, and a vote of thanks rendered Mr. Ot- terstad for the services rendered by him during the fourteen years in which he has held the position. It was moved by Ellis, seconded by Imsdahl that Henry Pfund of Kelliher e appointed as State Land Appraiser prtor this County, vice Nils A. Otter- stad, resigned. Carried. It was moved by Imsdahl, seconded by Hayes, that Chairman A. E. Rako be .appointed a committee of one to attend the State Conference of Chari- ties' and Corrections at Owatonna on September 29th. Carried. Moved, seconded and carried to take recess to 1:30 P. M. Board reconvened at 1:30 P. M. with Commissioner Lennon still absent. The following resolution was offered by Commissioner Hayes, who moved its adoption: WHEREAS the Federal Government has enacted a law providing Federal aid fal‘-’ certain roads of the United States, an ‘WHEREAS certain roads have been designated by the Board of County Com- missioners of this County, and Fed- eral Aid has been applied for under this law, and to the extent of $40,000 for the years 1918 and 1919, and ‘WHEREAS under the provisions of Chapter 75 of the General Laws of 1917, the County Boaru has been auth- orized to levy a tax sufficient to meet the requirements of the Federal Act, the sum so raised to be used ‘solely for that purpose; NOW_ BE IT RESOLVED that this Board levy a tax upon all real and personal property of the County in the sum of $25,000 for the purpose of meet- ing the requirements of the govern- ment in the construction of rural post roads, the money raised by such levy be placed in a separate fund to be used only for the purposes designated. The motion being seconded by Com- missioner Ellis, was put to a vote and duly carried, and so declared by the chairman. Moved, journ to 10:00 o'clock A. M., day, the 26th of September. | The Board reconvened at 10:00 o'clock A. M., September 26th, as per adjourn- Rako, Imsdahl, Hayes and Ellis. Absent: wvennon. There being no other bids for cord wood, it was moved by Ellis, seconded by Imsdahl, that the bid of Fred Bard- well for the delivery of pole wood on the court house grounds, there to be sawed and piled for measurements in three or four-foot lengths as directed, for $5.00 per cord, be accepted, deliv- ery of same to begin not later than Dec. 1st, and, earlier of sleighing makes it possible. Carried. The petition of Harriet A. Cameron praying to be set off from School Dis- trict No. 15 to District No. 10 was pre- ented, and on motion duly seconded ¢d carried, hearing on same was set ©r November 6th, at 2:00 P. M. The petition of Fred W. Juenemann et al praying for a change of boundar- ies of School District No. 60, Independ- ent, was presented and on motion duly seconded and carried, hearing on same ‘was set for November 6th at 3:00 o’clock M F Hayes, fnry 38 re- Moved, seconded and carried to take recess to 2:00 P. It was moved, seconded and carried to refer the following applications for reduction of valuations to the Super- visor of Assessments: Crookston Lum- ber Co.,, W. H. Donovan. It was moved by Hayes, seconded by sdahl, that the contractors on the “ferson Highway be ordered to turn- ike and surface the road between sta- tions 457 and 509, according to con- tract. Carried.
