Motion was made and carried to instruct the fire chief to employ a competent man to repair the fire en- gine. On the recommendation of Mayor Vandersluis the council provided for the purchasing of a new flag for the city hall. A resolution drawn up by City Attorney M. J. Brown to fix the vot- ing places and judges of the special bond election was introduced by Al- derman Smart and carried. The vot- ing places will be: First ward, Henry Miller’s store; Second ward, City hall; Third ward, log house in rear of Dicaire’s store; Fourth ward, Dailey’s Employment office; Fifth ward, old fire hall. The judges of the election will be: First ward, George Kirk, Ted Getchell and J. J. Conger; Second ward, R. J. Fen- ton, A. A. Carter and George Shep- ard; Third ward, P. M. Dicaire, Stev- ens and J. P. Ripple; Fourth ward, J. BE. Croon, Pearl Barnell and J. McTaggart; Fifth ward, Kidder, Lynden and Riply. Messrs. B Home Cookery Meat Turnovers. Chop the meat. If the quantity om hand is small mix with it leftover po- tato or rice. Season with salt, pepper, onion, etc. Place hlllng on circular pleces of biscuit dough about the size of a saucer. Fold over the dough and erimp edges together. Bake for about one-half hour in a hot oven. BServe with brown sauce. Peanut Soup Heat one pint of milk until luke- warm. Add two rounded tablespoon- fuls of peanut butter mixed to a smooth paste with a little of the milk. Salt to taste. Thicken with one tea- spoonful of butter or savory fat mixed with one tablespoonful of flour. Bring almost to the boiling point and serve. Mock Duck. On a round steak cut thin place a stuffing of breadcrumbs well seasoned with chopped onions, butter or other fat, salt, pepper and flavorings such as sage, celery seed, etc., if desired. Roll the steak around the stufing and tie in several places with a string. If the steak is tough, steam or stew the roll until tender before roasting in the oven, French Toast. Beat up together one egg, one cupful of skim or whole milk and salt to taste. Place a small quantity of butter, ba- con fat or other suitable fat in a broad bottom frying pan. Dip slices of stale bread into the egg and milk mixture until they are thoroughly moist and fry on both sides until a golden brown. Serve hot with or without sirup. Cheese and Greens Roll. Cook two quarts of spinach, Swiss chard or other greens. Drain and dress with one tablespoonful of butter. Chop and add one cupful of grated cheese und breadcrumbs enough to make a mixture sufficiently stiff to form into a roll. Place in an oblong pan and cook in a moderate oven for twenty minutes. When cold the mixture may be sliced in one-half inch pleces and served on lettuce leaves with salad dressing. Meat and Breadcrumb Cakes. To four parts of chopped or ground meat add one part soaked bread- crumbs, a small quantity of chopped onfon and salt and pepper to taste. Mix and form into small round cakes. Brown the cakes in butter or other fat, turning them. Pigs on Pasture. Pigs on pasture usually get enough exercise. They should have a clean, dry, well ventilated shelter to guard against exposure to storms and to sup- ply shade. A concrete wallow will add to the pigs’ comfort, and a layer of ofl on the water will keep down lice. Clean bedding also helps to keep away lice, as will an oiled sack on a rubbing post or sprinkling the pigs with crude oil every two weeks. To supply mineral matter and a tonic the following mineral mixture is good It always should be accessible. Dis- solve the copperas in hot water and sprinkle over the mixture: Copperas. two pounds; slaked lime, four pounds; ‘wood ashes, one bushel; sulphur, four pounds; salt, eight pounds: fine char- coal, one bushel.
