NEGRD MEN’S LEAGUE .u-mcn Alnc-ahon Has Been Organ- ized In. Gastnm-, N.C. A negro busluess men's league has been organized in Gastonia, N. C. Al- " though only about six months old, the league has over 100 members, all old and reliable negroes of Gastonia. The league is taking up matters of interest {0 the negroes and i1s endeavoring to develop industries that will keep them in the south. It is also encouraging them to live better and to keep their tomes, including their front and back ylnh in the best possible condition. 7“The president and the secretary of the»Gnstonh chamber df commerce ad- dressed a recent meeting of the league, which ‘was attended by 150 negroes. A banquet was recently given by the league to 200 of the negro men.of the city. They made all the arrangements, following out suggestions which had been given them by the Gastonia cham- ber officials. The negro men and women are tak- ing a great deal of interest in this movement to keep the negro in the ~ south. Unique Country Club. The Manchester (la) Commercial club claims to have originated a unique department for commercial club activi- ties, The members have organized a country club where the only sport is po- tato culture, and the use of five acres of excellent land has been donated by the club’s president for this purpose. The potatoes are to be sold in the fall for the benefit of the club treasury, and a marked improvement in the health of the club members is ex- pected Bwift Times.
