In Burope the women are doing men's work while the men are at the front smashing their enemies. It is @ necessity which they may not shirk, and which they do not want to shirk. The skirt is a serious ob- stagle to, the proper performance of these duties, hence the skirt has been E. A. Barker discarded and is replaced by the m asculine trousers. "~ . W[fRSTA STy y Guaranteed 2 Years. . oz — SLAUGHTER SLACKERS There is much wisdom in the suggestion that slaughter of milch cows and of hens should be restricted, and yet it.is difficult to control such matters by law. There is no great loss in the slaughter of a cow that consumes $12 worth of feed in the production of $10 worth of milk. Even if used for breeding purposes, such a cow might not produce a calf that would be any better as a dairy animal. Neither is there any loss 1in the slaughter of a hen that consumes $6 worth of feed in the produc- tion of $5 worth of eggs. As a general principle, female animals should not be slaughtered as long as they are valuable for breeding purposes, but a general law prescribing that rule would work injury and hard- ships in a great many instances.
