OUTRAGED DECENCY ASSERTS ITSELF The movement on the part of farmers and leading citizens in Bemidji to douse that stench known as the Campbell Lake club, just north of Bemidji, was to be expected and i'lghuully 80. Small wonder it didn’t start ere this, but it was a spontaneous outburst on the part of decent citizenry that is bound to seal the doom of the place and there is deter- mination on the part of those who have been compelled to long endur the outrageous conduct and actions on the part of the patrons of this “eminent club,” or whitever one chooses to term it. ‘With the first blush of spring, auto load after auto load commenced their daily rounds to Campbell Lake club. These could be obtained booz until one's hide sizzled. In those loads were persons of the lowest stripe —men and women—proven so by their actions. Members of families of farmers and autoists from Bemidji have been compelled to endure the disgraceful and shocking actions of abandoned drunken men and their drunken consorts, week days and Sundays. Vile and foul language has flown in steady streams from the parched throats of participants in orgies which would shame even the lowest depths of degredation. The foulest of the foul epithets and language have been hurled at the wives, daughters and children of respectable farmers and Bemidji residents. The conditions reached the stage until farmers would not permit their wives or daughters to walk to neighbors to subject them to the dastardly insults, which became common, from drunken loafers in autos coming from the so-called club. One of the best known farmers along Campbell Lake road informed a Pioneer representative and state official if he had been near when three of his children and compelled to witness a scene and hear the language uttered for their edification he would have committed a murder, driven t. Bemidji, gone to the sheriff’s office and told him what he had done, and done gladly. It had reached that stage, people of Bemidji. And there is much more of the same—much more. It isn’t pleasant to comment upon such a topic ts Campbell Lake club 1t is notorious and has been notorious. Its work and sordiness resultan has become a hideous carmine joke. It has been the mecea and the Jjes for the drunken sot, the youth and the harlot. Slackers who skipped out of the country to avoid the draft registra. tion should be promptly deprived of their citizenship.
