He will not have schools on his land, preferring to seek profit by the ignor- ance of the natives. His policy leads to bitter feeling and finally a tragedy. A mountain youth who is suspect- ed of having set fire to one of Grayson’'s mills, is killed while re- sisting arrest, and his sister vows vengeance on his slayers. The play DAILY PIONEER shows the life of Southern mountain dwellers and the barriers existing between them and wealthy people whom they suspect and despise be- cause of misunderstandings bred by caste. Miss Taliaferro considers the role of Renia Mathis the strongest of her screen career. Into the part she has put unusual power and beauty. AT THE ELKO Roscoe ‘‘Fatty” Arbuckle, the latest star under the Paramount banner, who will be seen at the Elko theater tonight in ‘“The Butcher Boy,” has grown so fat that when he travels by rail he is compelled to have a special private car. He is known as ‘‘the funniest fat man on the screen” and in his new comedy Fattry Arbuckle is a butcher boy, working in a small town country store, where they sell everything from frankfurters to fire escapes. His adventures are screamingly funny.
