TAXPAYERS WILL YOR' (Continued from Page 1.) tredsurer was presented and read an ordered referred to the finance, com- mittee. Report Causes Comment. Chairmafi Lahr of the finance com- mittee, which went over the annual report of City Clerk Steln, made the report for the committee, in which he stated at the outset that the re- port didn’t show money received, only disbursements. The committee suggested that the books of the city officials be audited as the new coun- ¢il didn’'t know what they assumed when they took their seats and want- ed to know just where they were “at.” It was also suggested that A gaxes be raised to run the city with- o in its revenues. / It was brought out that about $2,- 3 500 had been paid out of the per- 3 maneént improvement fund for bridge 49 work and that it was the wrong fund. The money should have come from the general fuhd. The committee report stated that “ owing to the incomplete report of the city clerk the committee was unable to make such an estimate as to how the city would fare in the[ future as regards finances. The re- port was accepted and filed. p Delays Are Scored. In connection with the presenta- tiqn of the report the question was raised a® to -he long delay in pre- paring the city clerk’s report. It was also recalled that the clerk’s quarterly report was over due and not available. It was stated that City Clerk Stein has not been well for about a month and this brought forth the assertion that the report had been due for more than a month and it was decided to ascertain whether the city clerk was unable to make his reports and if so as- sistance would be procured for him. He was also instructed to make monthly reports to enable the finance committee to know what money it 3 had to do business with and not be obliged to grope in the dark. The matter caused a general discussion, .several of the expressions being per- tinent. Two more weeks were al- E: lowed the clerk to make his quar- g terly report. Would Remodel Buildine.
