We're trying our darndest to be patriotic, and it isn’t a hard job by any means, but when it is reportéd from Washington that a lobby of citizens of the United States is endeavoring to block legislation of the government to control food prices so the people of this country will be forced to want and practically starvation we wonder if it isn’t about time the government was coming to its senses. There’s been enough time and attention given to attempts to muzzle the loyal press and it is about time gomething was done to jail the food speculators and their hirelings who seem to be tolerated at the seat of government. It seems almost in- credible that such facts, if such they are, even dare to exist. We noticed in a dispatch from Washington yesterday where Carl ‘Vrooman, assistant secretary of agriculture, asserts that those who corner food for speculation should be treated as traitors to their country. Well, that isn’t half what us poor mortals think should be done with ’em and it isn’t any sudden inspiration, either. But, war or no war, what about’ those who let the speculators put it over on the people?
