ORGANIZE RED CROSS J ‘Whether the women of Bemidji will affiliate with the Minneapolis chapter of the Red Cross society or whether they will form a national chapter will be decided at the meet- ing of the Patriotic league in the City hall tomorrow night, at 8 o'elock. Citizens of Bemidji are urged to cttend the meeting and as- sist in whatever way possible in this patriotic venture. WEDDING RECEPTION | b l Coming Events ~ Apri] 19—Patriotic meeting in the City hall. April 24—The county commission- ers hold their regular meeting. A wedding reception was given at the George H. Miller home in Grant Valley last evening in honor of their son, Henry Miller, and bride, who were married yesterday morning at 8 o’clock, in the Catholic church. There were two hundred guests pres- ent. Among the Bemidji people who attended the reception were Mr. and - Mrs. Martin Dunn and Mr. and Mrs. J. N. Cushner. FOUR NEW MEMBERS / Four new members joined the East- ern Star last evening. They were Mr. and Mrs. N. L. Hakkerup and Mr. and Mrs. Letford. After the business meeting a social time was had and refreshments served. Miss Edith Mills sang several solos and Miss Vera Backus gave two readings. MEETING POSTPONED The Baptiist Study ‘club meeting has been postponed until the first part of May on account of the spe- ;. cial union meetings of the Methodist and Baptist churches. MRS. AKRE HOSTESS Mrs. Ed Akre will entertain the Ladies’ Aid society of the Fifth ward tomorrow afternoon at 2 o’clock. THE BEMIDJI DAILY PIONEER SPECIAL SERVICES The stormy condition of the weath- er last evening cut the size of the congregation at the Methodist church but did not affect the interest of the meeting. ¢ Evangelist Smith spoke on the sub- ject of “Profit and Loss.” Tonight, Mr. Smith announces his most important sermon to those who are not Christians, his subject being “The Difficulties in the Way.” Smith and Gilmore will sing one of their finest duets and a trio wili be ren- dered by Messrs. Smith, Gilmore and Alvord. Tomorrow at 3:30 p. m., the ser- vice will be for women and the evan- gelist will give a revised version of the “Win” McClure story. Messrs. Smith and Gilmore will sing “Life's Railway to Heaven.” The men of the city especially are asked to remember that E. W. Peck, state secretary of the Y. M. C. A., is to be in Bemidji next Sunday. He will be accompanied by Prof. H. E. Griebenow of Minneapolis, one of the finest tenors in Minnesota. General Public: You are hereby notified to clean up and remove any and all obstructions such as wood and rubbish and other unsanitary conditions from sidewalks, streets and alleys in said city of Bemidji, in accordance with section six of Gen- eral Ordinance No. 15, which is as follows: No person shall encumber or ob- struct any sidewalk or street and alley within said city by placing thereon any boxes or barrels, build- ing material, farm implements, fire- wood, or any other thing, material or substance and no awning, ban- ner, sign, flag or decoration shall be hung or placed over or across any sidewalk in said city, unless the same shall be hung or placed, fixed or hung not less than six and one-half feet above said sidewalk. PENALTY: Any person violating any of the provisions of this section shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction thereof shall be pun- ished by a fine of not less than five dollars nor more than twenty-five dollars or by imprisonment not ex- ceeding twenty days.
