There were demure girls, attired in the typ- ical vivid-colored Dutch garments and wooden shoes, for pro- grams, and Dutch swains distributing *“favors.” The entire dec- orations were the work of the students. Amid such enticing scenes, there was a blitheness that is seldom experienced at a high school dance. There were, how- ever, several gowns which might, and might not, arouse the offi- cial condemnation of Evangelist Aldrich, had he been a spectator. ‘The limited raiment was much in minority, and did not create much favor among the other dancers. These gowns were also typical of parts of the musical program, which included such ‘“‘very modern” selections as ‘“Kaddie, Kiddie, Koo,” “They Wear Them Higher in Hawaii,” and ‘“Eve Was Modest 'Till She Ate the Apple.” Very conspicuous was one of the extras, “Naughty— Naughty—Naughty.” “Swell music,” was the verdict from the dancers, the great majority of whom were high school students and teachers. The grand march, elaborate and pretty, was led by Hubert Dear and Miss Eleanor Maki. DIXIE NATIONAL AIR? WOW! The following dispatch was sent out from Washington to the press of the country: & Several members of congress are considering introducing a resolution making ‘“Dixie’”” a national air to supplement “America,” which they say is English, and the “Star Spangled Banner,” which some say is too hard to sing.” ‘“Uncle Joe” Can- non says Dixie already is a national anthem. “Dixie the national air? We’ve not a thing in the world against the air nor the song Dixie, but if the good old Star Spangled Banner isn’t good enough for some congressman at Washington we’d suggest Marching Through Georgia. We can imagine a bunch of red blooded northerners singing “I wish I were in Dixie,”” when they know doggone well they don’t wish any such thing. Why Dixie? ROUNDABOUT TELEGRAPH SERVICE And while the Commercial club is in a campaign for the betterment of Bemidji and matters which affect it, we would suggest that the proper authorities be interviewed relative to direct telegraph service between Bemidji and the Twin Cities. Seems a little out of plumb somewhere for Bemidji people or Twin City people to be obliged to have their telegraph messages sent out of the state in transmission between the Twin Cities and Bemidji. But such is the fact. Any time a Bemidjite desires to wire St. Paul or Minneapolis, or vice versa, the message is first sent to Fargo, N. D. LET BEMIDJI HAVE “BIG DRIVE” Sheriff Frank Klaus, 2 member of an old German family of McLeod coun- ty, has issued a proclamation warn- ing all residents under his jurisdic- tion that any unpatriotic acts would be viewed as treason by him. We’ve already seen several instances of preparation for one and it looks like there was going to be something doing along the line ere long.
