RAMBLING AGAIN, THAT'S ALL ° Two citizens happened to meet on a corner of the business district yestorday afternoon and as the day was pretty and the sun shone brightly they lingered over a brief conversation, in the course of which onq asked the other how his brother was getting along. “Just fine,” answered the other. ‘“He's going to make a barrel of money this year. You see he’s an inventor. Yes, he's invented a simple Httle contrivance for pulling tacks. Best thing you ever saw. All you have to do is to slip it under the tack, press a little spring and flip—out -comes the tack.” ' “You don’t say?” questioned the first speaker, “Yep, that’s a fact. Greatest thing you ever saw,” answered his friend, “Is he going to sell it away from here?” asked the first speaker. “Why no,” explained the second. ‘‘He's going to sell’ em right here in Bemidji.” “Poor fellow,” commented the first speaker. do much business in Bemidji.” “Why not?” queried the brother of the inventor in a surprised tone. “Because,” explained his friend sort of abstractedly, ‘“we’'ve got a bridge that will pull most of the tax in Bemidji for a long time.” “Am afraid he won’t 1ater than Tuesday of each week to insure publication in the current issue. S. Beatty, and it was a good, interest- ing meeting. At noon the club la- dies served dinner to about 75. On account of bad roads and lots of enow there was not as large an attendance as looked for. The most interesting topic dis- cussed was a club machine house. J. E. Svenson was appointed to write to several firms for information. The next meeting will be at the home of John Anderson, April 8, and an invitation is-extended-to all clubs to attend. 5,000,000 Corns - Lifted Right Off ! Try S Drops of Magio “Gets-It.” There’s a wonderful difference be- tween getting rid of a corn now and the way they used to try to get rid of it only four or five years ago. “Gets-It” _has revolutionized corn BIG PROBLEM FOR GERMANY One of the biggest problems confronting the German Reichstag, which is now in session in Berlin, is that of increasing the birth rate in Germany. Many radical proposals have been made and the government will sift them all. The committee of 28 appointed to investigate this matter is ex- pected to report. The more conservative proposals include economic steps to make earlier marriages possible; higher wages, regulation of vice and the limitation of disease, making marriage easier. Other proposals include heavy bachelor taxes, plural voting rights for men with large families and money premiums for mothers bearing many children. Another plan is to make professional education courses shorter so young lawyers, doctors and professional men can get established and married before their 25th or 30th year. A The man who owns a vacant lot adjoining the one on which he lives and allows that lot to run to weeds is literally burning up money. If he is so eternally averse to gardening, he could easily keep a hundred or two laying hens thereon, and within a ygar or two retire with a million. But, then, only a cross-eyed man can see the end of his nose. That suggestion of G. W. Harnwell, anent proper house numbering and street signs in the new Fifth ward, and also throughout the city where needed, is an excellent one. Every street intersection should be properly labeled but such signs are sadly lacking in a number of such places. When the officials of Russia and their lackeys got too strong with their arrogant domination the people just naturally kicked 'em off the perch. That's nothing new in America but hardly expected in Russia. Yet, sometimes the unexpected will happen. Ever notice it? We can’t blame you, Willie, for being somewhat ashamed of your old dad, and we sympathize deeply with you in having him wished upon you. He deserves your harshest censure for his many shortcomings, prin- cipal of which was his rank failure in raising a son. .Several have informed us that they are certain they have heard a robin chirping thus early. Wouldn't be at all surprised, at that. One can hear almost anything nowadays—in Bemidji. Russia had a political revolution 'tother day, but seems to us there was another not so long, long ago—not in Russia, either. We know a man in Bemidji who lends nothing but his moral support and pays nothing but his respects. ) 'I:he man who goes home highly illuminated runs the risk of having his wife put him out: p S i 3 Success is a bell that some men ring and others answer.
