B. Stewart returned yesterday morning from his annual visit to the schools in the Lake of the Woods district, where he had been for the past two weeks. A few years ago there was searcely a school in that part of Bel-| trami county, and today it requires several days to make the rounds ut', the various schools. Says the Williams Northern Light: County Superintendent Stewart while up this way ordered a school to be opened at once at the residence of Homer Mook, temporarily, in Eugene township ,with Miss Katie Weatherby as teacher, and it is expected to be- gin next week. .\ new school house will be built on the Pittenger place next summer, and the Conklin school will then be cnnsohdated with it. SLOCUM FUNERAL The funeral of M. G. Slocum was held yesterday aftermoon from the Huffman & O’Leary undertaking par-| lors, Rev. Lester P. Warford, pastor of the Presbyterian church, officiat- ing. Mr. Slocum, who was 57 years old, dropped dead at the Union depot Monday while purchasing a ticket for International Falls where he was go- ing on. business matters, death being due to heart trouble. - Mr. Slocum had for many years been bailiff at the Beltrami county court house.
