‘ WRONG NAME GIVEN IN DAHL AFFAIR, IS . STEARNS, NOTNIELSEN In obtaining the story of the visit of Olga Dahl to the county jajl to look at a prisoner detained there, it being suspected that he was the man who made the attack upon her, the information was given that the pris- oner’s name was “N. J. Nielsen” when it should have® been Fred Stearns. Mr. Nielsen is the head of the Kel- liher police and the man who brought Stearns to the Beltrami county jail. That others also received the same information is evident from the news dispatches sent out of Bemidji to St. Paul and Minneapolis and other pa- pers giving the name as Nielsen, but Chief Nielsen of Kelliher calls at- tention to the mistake. The Pioneer is glad to correct the error for Mr. Nielsen as no one would think for a moment of Chief Nielsen being im- plicated in any such affair. REGISTER NEXT TUESDAY IF YOU HAVE MOVED| iaaeee——. Next Tuesday is registration day | and all voters who have moved from one ward to another must register. All newcomers who will cast a ballot for the first time must see that their name is placed on the registration lists. g Al) petitions of candidates must be filed by February 10. SPECIAL MESSAGE Tonight, Mr. Fagenstrom has a special message for high school stu- dents, preceded by an illustrated talk to boys and girls at 7:30 o’clock at the Baptist church. Friday afternoon Mr. Fagenstrom will address a meeting for older girls. 2 A silver offering will be taken at the close of the lecture for M. Fa- genstrom. “JACK THE SPITTER” IS ABROAD IN BEMIDJI Bemidji has a “Jack the Spitter” who seems to derive some pleasure and satisfaction by expectorating up- on plate front of stores in the busi- ness district. The stunt has become quite noticeable to some of the mer- chants and store proprietors state that if it is necessary they will em- plov a special watchman to prevent the disgusting practice on the part of some degraded specimen of hu- manity. CLUB MEETS MARCH 3 The Turtle River Working club will hold its next meeting Saturday, March 3, at the Menthy home. The members are requested to come at 9 o’clock in the morning, or as close to that hour as possible. Dinner will be served at noon. The last meeting was held at the Tom John- son home, January 28, and was well attended. Four new members join- ed, being Mr. and Mrs. William Mas- terson and Mr. and Mrs. Odell. EXCITED MAN SENDS FALSE FIRE ALARM An alarm of fire was sent into the department late yesterday afternoon, the call coming from the box fac- tory, but the call was almost imme- diately countermanded. An employe had bored a hole in a board through which was to run an iron rod. The hole was too small and the employe heated the rod and was burning the hole to the proper dimensions when some one blew the fire whistle and the office sent in the call. It was soon discov- ered what it was all about and an- other call halted the response of the department. STUDY CLASS MEETS The Mission Studv class of the Presbyterian church b~'d iis last meeting for the year at the Pres- byterian parsonage Monday night, having finished the course, “India Awakening,” by Sherwood Eddy. There were fourteen present and the final papers were given by Miss Mable Brooks and John Harris. After ibe program a soéial hour and rofresh- ments were enjoyed. The class ex- pects to take up another course in the fall. i HAS VARIETY STORE Mrs. Tom Simons, formerly of this city, i§ now conducting a variety store on Snelling avenue, Minneap- olis. REST ROOM IS CLOSED; THE BEMIDJI DAILY PIONEER STILLWATER BACHELORS LACK OF FUNDS CAUSE PLAY BEMIDJI TONIGHT Mrs. Frank Thompson, matron of the rest room, stated this morning that it will be impossible for her to accept the offer of the Commercial club to pay her $25 per month for the rest room and her services, she to pay for the fuel, lights and water, and the room closed today. The room has been in operation for the past several years and has been a great convenience, especially to farmers’ wives and children when they come in to do their shopping. The rest room was opened under the auspices of the Woman’s Study club and a few~ Bemidji -merchants paid for its upkeep. Hundreds have vis- ited the room each month during the winter and summer. AID MEETS TOMORROW The Willing Workers Aid of the Salvation Army will meet at - the home of Mrs. C. M. Johnson of the Fifth ward tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 o’clock. Everybody welcome. The Bachelors basketball team from Stillwater will arrive in Be- midji early this evening to play the Big Bemidg team a series of three games, the first one this evening. The game will be called at 8:45 o’clock to allow prior attendance at the mo- tion picture shows. - The visitors come with a splendid record as individual players and as a team, they having played together for the past two years, after having won the state high school champion- ship. A new face will be seen in the Be- midji lineup this evening, Lloyd Tanner, the high school star and one of the best high school players in the state being induced to don the black and white of the Big Bemidg, and Tanner’s work will be watched with interest as he has a habit of boring through the opposition and getting to the goal. He will add greatly to the strength of the locals. —— e _— AT THE GRAND FRIDAY Scene from “In Walked Jimmy,” at the Grand theater, Friday evening. I Seats are now selling.
