Tournament of Roses, Pasadena’s beautiful and unique mid-winter fete, will be the big attraction New Year’s day and thousands from every state in the union are here, clad in summery garments, and enjoying a floral festival possible only in Sunny Southern California at this season. The floral parade at 10:30 Monday will find thousands at points of van- tage along the line of march for the procession of beauteous splendors. Roses, violets, carnations, gerani- ums—all products of Southern Cali- fornia’s outdoor winter—will be massed and banked in every conceiv- able form in scores of floats; myriads of blosscms will be showered upon the spectators by pretty girls in filmy costumes, and school children, marching clubs, bands and other or- ganizations will add their share to this mid-winter festival of flowers. In the evening, a grand ball, at- tended by the social leaders of the Pacific coast and the East, will bring the glorious day to a joyous close. 30.—The AMERICAN BIG GAME HUNTERS GOING AFTER AFRICAN LIONS (By United Press) Cleveland, Dec. 30.—Two of Col- onel Roosevelt’s big game hunting companions in Africa—Clifford Ful- ler and Kenyon Painter, are going back after the lions as soon as the British war measures are relaxed, Fulled told the Northern Ohio Fish & Game association at its convention here today. Fuller said the Germans and Brit- ish have been so busy shooting each other that the lions have been left alone and are multiplying rapidly. Peik, who is the superintend- ent of the Blackduck schools, has an- nounced that next year he will be- come superintendent of the Tracy schools. During his administration in Blackduck he has given excellent satisfaction and his announcement is received with general regret. He will succeed a superintendent of 25 years service at Tracy.
