ADVERTISING BY THE GENERAL OFFICES @ NEW YORK AND CHICAGO BRANCHES IN ALL TH¥ PRINCIPAL CITIEY MR. NEUMEIER LEAVES. F. G. Neumeier, who for the past year and a half has been the editor of the Daily Pioneer, has resigned his position and Thursday leaves for St. Paul to continue his newspaper work. In going to St. Paul, Mr. Neu- mejer returns to scenes of former newspaper activities where there are greater things awaiting him. Since coming to Bemidji, Mr. Neu- meler has been a potent factor in the improvement of the Daily Pioneer and his work has been of a calibre Justitying the regret of the Dally Ploneer in the decision of Mr. Neu- meler. He is a young man of excep- tional ability and the Daily Pioneer and his many friends predict success in his new work. The leaving of Mr. Neumeier will bring to the Daily Pioneer an added feature, certain to attract unusual at- tention. In connection with his reg- ular work, Mr. Neumeier will act as the special correspondent of the Pio- neer in both the Twin Cities and at the state capitol. There are many matters of importance to Bemidji and vicinity coming up in the next legis- lature and these will receive the close attention of Mr. Neumeier for Pioneer readers. Mr. Neumeier will be succeeded by Frank T. Beaver, an Illinois news- paperman, who has of late been in newspaper work in Corpus Christi, Tex., on the Gulf, close to the Mex- ican border. Mr. Beaver was for- merly managing editor of the Daily + Register and Daily Ledger in Can- ton, Ill., associate editor of The Horseman magazine and police re- porter for the Chicago City Press as- sociation. He comes to Bemidji highly recommended. Mr. Beaver was the first newspaperman to send a story to the outside world of the tropical storm that swept the Gulf of Mexico and the southwest Texas coast with millions of dollars loss and fifteen deaths. Corpus Christi was isolated three days. THE MUNICIPAL RINK. While we are frank to admit that the municipal skating rink is not all to be desired in some respects, there is no blame. that can be at- tached to the city in any manner, so it seems, in that no effort on the part of those most interested has been made to provide that which seemingly is wished for. ‘Whether the, city is in a position to take money away from the various funds and expend it for something for which there has been no appro- priation is another matter. However, the city council did set apart $100 for the benefit of the public in pro- viding a warming house for the skat- ers and the city has also assisted in cleaning off & space for skating and getting the surface in shape. 1If there is mote to be done it iz doubt- ful if the city authorities are aware of it, or have not been advised in a businesslike manner. At the meeting held last week' for the promotion of a Carnival associa- tion Mayor Vandersluis openly stated that out of the 7,000 inhabitants of Bemidji otily’one appeared sufficient- ly interested to approdch the cotin- cil and ask aid in“providing a skat- | ing place'for’ thoé who wished to'in- dulge in this healthful exercise, and ‘that the same yisit on the part of the | single individual Was what brought forth the huwdred.
