THE BEMIDJI DAILY PIONEER BETTER THAN CALOMEL jmmy Clabby. Jack Dillon and Mike Gibbons FUNERAL DIRECTOR a Harmless Substitute Dr. Edwards’ Olive Tablets—the sub- stitute for calomel—are a mild but sure laxative, and their effect on the liver is almost instantaneous. They are the re- sult of Dr. Edwards’ determination not to treat liver and bowel complaints with calomel. His efforts to banish it brought out these little olive-colored tablets. These pleasant little tablets do the good that calomel does, but have no bad after effects. They don’t injure the teeth like strong liquids or calomel. They take hold of the trouble and quickly correct it. Why cure the liver at the expense of the teeth? Calomel sometimes plays havoc with the gums. So do strong liquids. It is best not to take calomel, but to let Dr. Edwards’ Olive Tablets take its place. Most headaches, “dullness” and’ that lazy feeling come from constipation and the M.E. Kelley of Menahga, for- merly president of the Northern Min- nesota Development association, is a candidate for appointment to the state fair board. Mr. Kelley is well equipped for the office. We urge that he be appointed. Thief River Falls News-Press: The recent election demonstrates one thing conclusively, and that is the necessity of amending the non-par- tisan law. It is expensive, it serves no purpose whatever, and it com- pletely demoralizes party loyalty and party fealty. Winnebago Enterprise: The effi- ciency commission will recommend to the next legislature the passage of certain bills tending to do away with superfluous boards. This is a move toward economy. At the present time, the cost of government in Min- nesota is abnormal. We have too many officials, all of whom are dip- ping a greedy finger into the public treasury. The load on the taxpayers is greater than it hasi any right to be. Bemidji is on the Jefferson high- way, but ite citizens are not as ac- tive for the highway as they should be. The highway between this city and the state park is in poor condi- tion. The highway between this city and Bagley is even in worse con- dition. If Bemidji wants to remain on the highway, more interest must be taken by all of the citizens. The highway is worth more to Bemidji than a new railway and Bemidji should show its appreciation by keep- ing up the standards of the “Pine to Palm” highway. Thief River Fally and Bemidji are in another “argument.” This time it is over the Northwestern Minne- sota high school football champion- ship. The Bemidji and Thief River Falls teams came through the season with excellent records and Bemidji volunteered to play the Thief River Falls eleven. The Thief River Falls team offered the excuse that two of its star players were out of the game, but Bemidji also had two star men Bemidji offered to play at Bemidji, Fosston or Thief River Falls, but the Thief River Falls coach said that the grounds were frozen. That team was then notified that unless a game was played Bemidji would claim the title. Bemidji claimed the title and now Thief River Falls has set up a cry. In order to settle all claims Bemidji ,although the team has dis- banded, offers to play the Thief River Falls team on a week’s notice. ‘Will that team accept? SPORT NEWS LES D’ARCY ON WAY TO UNITED STATES By HAMILTON (United Press Staff Correspondent) New York, Dec. 4.—Les Darcy, king pin of the middleweights in Australia, and the one man believed to have championship ability, cer- tainly is on his way to the United States, according to well posted men in New York. Darcy, they say, left Australia on a tramp steamer bound for Chili. She will reach here tais month, accord- ing to information, and Darey is ex- pected to embarg on another ship for New York, by way of the Panama Canal. Darcy’s escape from military ser- vice, if it really is true, will send a mixture of joyous and fearsome thrills trickling up and down the spines of some of America’s well known aspirants to the throne va- cated by Stanley Ketchel. Darcy has been laying out, with . monotonous regularity, every fighter who could be induced to try the issue with him.
