Friday evening the Bemidji band will give a free concert at the city hall, beginning at eight o’clock. An excellent program will be given and Bemidji people are urged to attend. Bemidji people should attend. They owe it to themselves and to the band. Bemidji people should cultivate a musical taste and should take more interest in such affairs. The Bemidji band is one of the leading organizations of its kind in the northern section of the state. Under the direction of Louis Bur- chard, the band has been strengthen- ed by players from other cities who have come to this city to live because of the band. Recent additions to the band are James McCarron, solo cornet, Tomson Grier, traps and double drums, Philip Robins, solo clarinet. These men are from thp 141st Battalion band of Ontario and are muscians of rare ability. Other members of the band are Axel Kittleson, Harold White, Alvin Ol- son, John Halseth, Tom Newton, Nor- man, Bucklin, Oscar Nelson, Fletcher Grimoldby, William Dugas, Charles Paul, Paul Foucault, Archie Fenton, Clyde Petrie, Archie Williams, Elmer Kittleson and Elford Benson. The concert is free Friday night. After the concert a dance will be given by the band orchestra at which an admission charge of 75 cents will be made. The orchestra and band have donated their services for this occasion to aid in paying the ex- penses of the new members of the band until “suitable outside employ- ment is found. Every effort is be- ing made by every member of the band to make it the best in the state. The orchestra, composed of band members, and which is known as Bur- chard’s orchestra, is as follows: Louis Burchard, Miss Ruth Riley, Philip Robbins, James, McCarron, Tomson Grier, Fletcher Grimoldby and Elford Benson. Invitations have been issued for the dance and it is hoped that a good crowd will be in attendance. The Pioneer urges Bemidji people to attend this concert and dance on Friday night and give the band the support that it deserves. Let's go! The Red Lake Indiap fair is in progress. Bemidji day is tomorrow. Everybody is going. DRESS-UP WEEK. A lot of people have the impression that Dress-Up Week is some kind of an excuse for a sale. Let us ex- plain. The Dress-Up campaign is a direct appeal to the clothes-consciousness. It is an honest endeavor to impress men and women with the direct bene- fits brought about by a neat appear- ance. We needn’t go into details about it. Everybody knows that when they go after a new job, or when they are out to land a big order, or when they get married, they Dress Up. Dress-Up doesn’t mean making a snob of yourself. Getting down to plain talk about it, a snob usually is over-dressed, and overdressing is as much of a handicap as unkept ap- parel is. Appreciate your clothes; the com- fort they bring; the self-despect you feel when you are dressed right; the deference you command when you are well groomed.
