Smith was drilling around Camp Borden in Canada to the martial air of “God Save the King.” Today he is tramping around Camp Willis to the same air, but tme words of the song have a different meaning. Tired of the monotony of an annual camping trip and listless practice at his local armory during winter eve- nings, Smith resigned his commission in his regiment at Kenton on Feb. 29. He want- ed action.- - He started for it the next morning by leaving for De- troit. From there he pro- ceeded to Toronto, Canada, where he enlisted in the 124th Battalion of the Cana- dian expeditionary forces.
