In the party were also Sheriff Andy Johnson, Dave Bassett and the Region editor. We left Baudette at six in the morning, taking diteh 13, which we found dry but the road sadly in need of drag- ging. Later we followed ditch 20, the road of which is much better than is the case of 13. At ten o’clock we were at Waskish, on the shore of Red Lake, the largest body of fresh water wholly within the borders of the United States. From there we went to Kelliher over splendid roads, which are due largely to the work of William Lennon, county commission- er. From Kelliher to Blackduck, a distance of nineteen miles, there is a splendid road, and from there to Be- midji there is also a good highway. ‘We reached Bemidji at six o’clock but could have been there at three in the afternoon if we had not stopped to visit along the way. When it is con- sidered-that only a few years ago a person would have had to take a canoe to make the trip over most of the way, the present ditch roads are remarkable achievements.” Plans are being made for an auto- mobile tour from Bemidji to Baudette about August 15. Ten or twenty cars from Bemidji will probably make the trip.
