BEMIDJI NATIONAL BANKS GET CALL FOR STATEMENT The First National and the North- ern National banks today received no- tice that the comptroller of currency at Washington had issued a call for a statement of the condition of na- tional banks at the close of business June 30. It is believed that the Bemidji banks will show a good increase in deposits over a statement issued a year ago. FAMOUS DETECTIVE : DESMOND DIES IN ST. LOUIS St. Louis, July 5.—Wllllun Des- mond, for 17 years chief of detectives in St. Louis, died yesterday after an illness of 18 months. He was well known among police officers through- out the United States as a successful investigator of crime, and he has ob- tained confessions from many notor- ious criminals.
