oS- 1 £E BEMIDJ] DAILY PIONEER About Wire Fencing. The best kind of wire fencing to erect depends on the purpose for which the fence is used. On a farm where mixed types of live stock are kept a general purpose woven wire fabric is needed. If only. cattle and horses are to be pastured a coarser and less ex- pensive woven fence can be used. When fencing is needed to inclose ex- tensive pastures where only cattle or 20rses are to be kept the excessive 2ost of a woven wire fence would not make its use desirable, for losses to stock by injury on barbed wire would not be large enough to counterbalance the difference in the cost of maintain- ing the two different kinds of fences. This applies to the extensive farming areas of the west. THE BEMIDJI PIONEER DAILY and WEEKLY Weekly $1.50 A YEAR i Testing Lime Requirements of Soil. It is not always easy to tell when a soil has enough lime. There are sev- eral methods for testing the “lime re- quirement” of soils, but for practical purposes this may be roughly deter- mined by the kind of plants growing on the land. If trouble has been ex- perienced with red clover, but if a fair growth of timothy and of alsike clover can be obtained the land probably needs some lime, say 1,000 pounds of ground limestone per acre. If timothy and alsike clover are crowded out by redtop, or if such weeds as sorrel are abundant the land needs plenty of @ lime, at least a ton of ground lime- stone to the acre, and probably more. Certain-teed Roofing lowers the cost of building CERTAIN-TEED offers a substantial saving in roof construction, at this or any other time. It costs less to buy, less to lay, less to maintain and less per year of life. Because of tremendous production (the General makes one third of all the roll roofing made in America), and because of economies effected by enormous resources, modern machinery and favorably located mills, the General is able to make the best roofing at the lowest cost. CERTAIN-TEED Roofing is the General’s own product==from the raw materials to the finished rolls, it is made in the General’s huge mills. Itis made of the best quality roofing felt, thoroughly satur.ated with the General’s own blend of soft asphalts and coated with an impervious covering of harder asphalts. This keeps the inner saturation soft, and prevents the dry- ing out process so destructive toordinary roofing. That'swhy CERTAIN- TEED outlasts other roofing. It is guaranteed for 5, 10 or 15 years, according to ply. Experience proves that it lasts longer. CERTAIN-TEED is sold by responsible dealers everywhere at reason- able prices. Investigate it beforc you decide on any type of roof. You can {den- tify CERTAIN- TEED Roofing by the pame, which ig conspicuously displayed on every suii or bundle. Look for thia label.
