Yet God did not do his work well, as he added a useless ap- peddix. At least some of the medical men. claim that the appendix has no function. This is a false statement, as the appendix does have a function to perform and a very important one. It is an oil cup to the bowels and also aids in the digestion of foods. Today you have an appendix, tomorrow you add the itis “meaning pain,” and you have appen- dicitis. The day after the appendix is removed, but what becomes of the Itis? At one time you were warned not to eat any food cooked in a granite ware dish, or to eat any kind of seeds, not to chew tooth picks or matches, and innumerable other things, as they would cause appendicitis. Today they say nothing of the cause, but simply cut out the appendix Now what is the cause of appendicitis? Appendicitis is caused by a subluxation of the second lumbar vertibra, caus- ing an impingement upon the nerve leading to the appendix. This causes a fever and swellingin that organ which causes the pain. Or it may cause a relaxation of the muscular fibers, at the mouth of the appendix, which will allow a foreign substance to enter, and set up an irritation. Now should we cut out the affected or remove the cause? Would it not be much more simple, cheaper and better all around to remove the cause? Dr. George R. Cruichshank says, *“Happily customs are changing. While operative excesses are the rule today, ten years from now the opera- tion of today will be looked upon as barbarous.” If you are sick or have a pain in your side it will pay you to talk it over with me.
