During the past year the Pioneer has rejected nearly $3,000 worth of such advertising. Why? Because Bemidji merchants pay taxes here, support our schools, boost our community and make it possible for the citizens to live in the “best little city on the map.” The Pioneer believes that it is un- fair to place competition, which does not do a single thing toward the up- keep of this community, in the way of the loyal home business houses. The Dakota Advertising Agency recently mailed us a check with in- structions to run an ad for a doector specialist. We returned the check and told them that 1t was not ac: ceptable. The check came back with a letter. Here is the letter: . DAKOTA ADVERTISING AGENCY Incorporated Aberdeen,. South Dakota March 13, 1916 Pioneer, Bemidji, Minn. Gentlemen: Yours of March 10 in re Dr. Doran advertising received.and we kindly call your attention to the fact that you are, of all the papers of Minnesota, the only one who has made any objections to this adv. Please look to the columns of the Du- luth papers and down to Albert Lea and you will find Dr. Doran’s adver- tisement in certain intervals in all of them. dd As to your objection not toshurt your local physicians it seems !that: you have not read our copy but only the head of it. If you will be kind enough to read the copy carefully you will easily find out that Dr. Doran does not appeal to any of your local doctors’ patients but ONLY to such patients who are throughjwith| the local doctors anyway and;there- fore you do not hurt your local:doc- tors the least bit but on the -other hand you save many of your readers a trip to Minneapolis. Further as the paper is read’ in many outside towns it brings people in to town who probably -otherwise never would come ‘to Bemidji. and thus your local business men .are profiting to a certain extent. Please consider the other side of the question, too, and we fe¢l sure that you will come to the same¢7 ¢y clusion as all the other - editors, namely, that this-ad is not:husting your local physicians any butvsims ply adds that mueh more to the b=l ferent business interests in your-city. Truly yours, Dakota Advertising Agency, ‘We note that the above mentioned: contract was accepted by other-par pers in Bemidji. very 'BELTRAMI" COUNTY (Note—The following article was written by -Bueford M. This is not all, the twenty-five farmers’ clubs have been doing things; nearly every community has its.telephone line;. there are ' four, hundred farmer names in the fele- phone, directory for the city of Be- midji. -, Besides this rural mail routes lead out into the country in every direction. +To the man who has, at least, one thousand. dollars capital, good health GLYCERINE AND BARK fuin +PREVENT s APPENDICITIS The simple mixture of buckthorn bark, glycerine, etc., known as Adler- i-ka, astonishes Bemidji people, Be- cause Adler-i-ka acts.on BOTH,lower and upper bowl, ONE SPOONFUL re- lieves almost-ANY CASE .of constipa- tion, sour stomach or gas.
