SUBSCRIBE FOR THE PIONEER eral grand jury of San Francisco against prominent figures in what are considered here to be two of the boldest plots involving questions of American neutrality that have been uncivered since the European war began. Among those against whom indict- ments were voted, according to a message received here, are Franz Bopp, German consul general; Baron E. H. Von Shack, vice consul of Ger- many, and Maurice Hall, the Turk- ish consul general. Consular officers do not enjoy the diplomatic immunities which ambas- sadors, ministers and attaches are given by international law, but are subject to the jurisdiction of the country in which they are residents, and may be treated by the law as are any other persons. The indictments voted yesterday, however, are the first which the Am- erican government has attempted to secure against any foreign represen- tatives. This fact was taken to mean that hereafter the administra- tion means to prosecute wherever prosecution will lie any offender against American neutrality. JEWETT SECURES OLDSMOBILE AGENCY The C. W. Jewett Oldsmobile com- pany has secured the agency of the Oldsmobile car in this territory. “After six months of careful inves- tigation of cars,” said Mr. Jewett to- day, ‘“we have decided to become the agents of the Oldsmobile in our en- tire territory. We have 22 agents.” Pay-Up Week, a business stimu- lator, in Bemidji Feb. 21-26. 000000000006000000 o o O THE ANNUAL INVENTORY. -] Every farmer should take an annual inventory. At the begin- ning of the year is the logical time. Instead of guessing at the profits of the past year, says the American Farming, see how much new machinery, what equipment and new buildings were added during the year. A new automobile, a wheat drill, a washing machine, a tractor, a waste gnd fresh water system, a manure spreader, a lime grind- er—any one or a number of these may have been purchased dur- ing the past year. Not only can one estimate and determine the profits of the past year, but he can also map out what is needed in the future, what implements and machinery will be required. The wise farmer is thinking al- ready of the coming season and is taking an inventory as one of the first steps. 00000G00000000DO000O0000000O 00000000000000000000000000000 0000000000000000 (o] news;aper can succeed with- . out advertising, therefore we solicit the patronage of our readers for thase who by their advertising C.
