One morning while passing Rood’s gambling house, Ellie Fen- wick a beautiful girl who has awak- ened in John a desire to redeem him- self, hears the sound of a shot. The next instant Rood falls dead through the swinging doors of the barroom entrance, and John follows with a smoking pistol in his hand. Ellie is forced to be the principal witness at the trial that convicts John of mur- der. The scenes in which John es- capes and how Ellie secures the con- fession of Carlotta in an interview in are intensely thrilling. The sequel you can guess.
