The : Courler-News FOR“RENT-=Six-room cottage; 1120} # beginning of the European war there was an enormous increase in demand for all kinds of grain, cattle and other provisions, as well as for horses. They know that this de- mand set prices soaring. As a result of this increased de- mand they were assured of a larger market in 1915 and they put in larger areas of crops. Statistics gathered by the department of agri- culture at Washington show that this increase of acreage was about seven per cent. The first year of the war resulted in an increase of thirty-two per cent in the value of farm products. This has brought prosperity to the farmer. He knows the facts and the causes. The efforts of a certain Democratic press in the Northwest to create the impression that this agricultural) prosperity is a normal condition might deceive some people, but it won’t mislead the man who follows| the plow. That man does his own thinking. THE OPTIMIST. ‘Why does the optimist have so many friends? It is because he is happy and hap- piness is contagious. ‘We all want to be happy; happi-j| ness breeds health. Health brings enjoyment; enables us to think clearly, act wisely, and so become prosperous. So we all like the opti-| mist. ‘Why is he happy? It is because of his faith. The op-| timist believes in himself, believesi in his business, believes in possibili-| ties. This gives him courage, so he work; he smiles and he wins.
