GO TO IT! It is interesting and perhaps more than that to read the proposition J. J. Opsahl of Bemidji submits in the Mail Bag this morning for the bene- fit of the Minnesota.General Devel- opment Congress which meets today, says the St. Paul Pioneer Press in its issue of yesterday. Mr. Opsahl, who is chairman of the development committee of the Bemidji Commer- cial club, has caught the right spirit. He would have all business interests to unite on a plan which in five years would: increase by $5 the value of live stock on every acre of Minne- sota farms. That would mean $115,- 000 to every township and quickly would run into millions in the state. “An easy task,” he says. Perhaps not as easy, yet possible of accom- plishment and what a glorious re- sult. That is the spirit and the op- timism that do things. Start on such a plan and if the full result is not accomplished, think .of the value of whatever would be accomplished. Let the Development congress go to it. * 2 » Mr. Opsahl’s letter to the Mail Bag of the St. Paul Pioneer Press is as follows: To the editor of the Pioneer Press: At the,December 1 Minnesota Gen- eral Development Congress, why not have a resolution about as follows adopted, and every delegate to go home ,to spread the gospel and try and carry it out: Let bankers, merchants and farm- ers unite to increase the:live stock in 1916 on .Minnesota farms to an amount equivalent to at least $1 an acre per year, and continue such in- creage for five years, which would mean; $400 on an eighty-acre farm, or $800 on a 160acre farm, or $115,- 000 per township:in five years. An easy task.” Let us in our development talks get down to concrete and.practical facts that every community can go home, organize.and; carry out for general prosperity, Shall.we take ac- tive hold to make Minnesota: . the leading wool state in the Union? J. J. OPSAHL; Chairman;Development Committee. Beniidji. PROSPERITY. November as a whole has been the best month of the, year in Bemidiji.
