How's Your Gar Work now honestly, on these cold frosty mor= nings doesn’t she spit, sputter and stop when you first start out. The men who are using PURITY gaso= line have less trouble than those who do not. This is just the kind of weather in which PURITY shows up the com- mon kind. It evaporates and delivers the power from the start. Better With Purity —than with any other kind is the gen- eral verdict among car owners, when asked how the gasoline is working. JERRARD, Mgr. 6 Bemidji, Minnesota - TWO BIG GAMES IN EAST TODAY Harvard and Princeton Share Honors; Pittsburgh-Washington and Jef- ferson Game Important. By George R. Holmes. (United Press Staff Correspondent) New York, Nov. 6.—In normal years there would be only one “big” game scheduled for today—the an- nual affair between Harvard and Princeton. But that was before the decline of Harvard, the demise of Yale and the general grand upset- ting that has made 1915 the most weird season ever. First Time in History. Today, for almost the first time in history, Harvard and Princeton must share spotlight honors with smaller and heretofore despised rivals. For the Pittsburgh-Washington and Jef- ferson game at Pittsburgh today is every bit as important as the Har- vard-Princeton muss, and in some re- spects more so. Championship Aspect. Four games loom up as the cream of Eastern football endeavor this year—Princeton, Cornell, Pittsburgh and Washington and Jefferson. Only three of these will be left in the hunt after today, so in reality the Penn- sylvania battle assumes a champion- ship aspect. Pittsburgh has been de- clared by Walter Camp to have the best football team in the country this year; W. and J. proved that it also has a semblance of a' football team by licking Yale, which even in the Blue’s demoralized condition, is no easy task. Will Be Hard Battle. The scrap at Princeton, however, will.be every bit as hard fought as .& ?@u alit fi,‘ of iy MilKK, Unsurpassed You can’t afford to eat or drink anything which you are not ab- solutely sure is PURE. Harvard is tottering on the brink of a football rout, and if her football team doesn’t put up a grand little fight to escape that fate it -will be the first time in history that a Harvard team didn’t. On the Tiger side, Princeton is almost to the top of the championship pole; a de- feat by Harvard would send her down again a lot faster than she came up, as in that event the championship of the East would be shared by Cor- nell and the winner of the Pitt-W. It is almost unprecedented for an at- tack to be delivered by a responsible statesman controlling a parliament- ary majority. M. Venizelos’ denun- ciation of King Constantine for op- posing the popular will cannot mean only that the ex-premier spoke hast- ily and in anger or that he has de- cided to challenge the king to a trial of strength. : There is little possibility that a statesman of M. Venizelos’ long ex- perience would lose control of him- self sufficiently to attack the throne without premediated purpose. Schwandt General Merchandise “Our Goods Are The Best That Money Can Buy"” . Telephone 33 BEMIDIJI BUSINESS DIRECTORY CLASSIFIED ALPHABETICALLY probability, M. Venizelos has decided that it is necessary in the interest of Greek democracy to try to put the king in his place, as a constitutional and limited monarch. Borrowed From England. But, however firm'M. Venizelos’ in- tentions may be, there is no guaran- tee that he can carry the country with him. The Greeks have borrowed their monarchial ideas from Great Britain, but King Constantine is safe in at- tempting constitutional evasions that would cost the king of England his throne. That is because the British people are far more jealous of their democratic privileges than are the Greeks. It could be predicted with certainty what the result would be in Great Britain if King George tried to- govern with a minority ministry and demand general elections when- ever he differed with the leaders of the majority. No -such confidence exists for the prophet who attempts to forecast the result in Greece. There can be no doubt but that M. Venizelos is wholly right in declaring the present politi- ¢al crisis is a test of democracy against monarchism. The decision which the Greeks will probably be called upon to make, may have large consequences .concerning the future development of their political insti- tutions. That’s To Revive Glories. Modern democracy in Europe has never shown the tenacity of purpose that it has developed in the west. Democracy first rose to dominant in- fluence in ancient Athens, but though M. Venizelos is ambitious to revive all the ancient glories of Greece, it is-unquestionable whether he can restore popular government to the full. Modern and ancient Athens are not the same.
