GENERAL OFFICES NEW YORK AND CHICAGO HWRANCHES IN ALL THE PRINCIPAL CITIES HAVE A VISION. Get rich! Be a business success; it is not wrong to be financially in- .dependent. Being poor is often, . though not necessarily, the sign of unfitness; it indicates failure. But if honestly interferes with the ac- quisition of wealth, be honest. Make your money through industry, thrift and foresight, not through gambling, deceit or theft. But after you. have gotten rich, what are you?—a failure—if being rich is your only virtue. Have a vi- sion, a high vision, be that which it is one’s privilege to be—a Christian. And that means that you are not be a rich old grouch who hordes money like a miser; it means you are to be liberal and kind to those less for- tunate than you. It means much more than that. It means that you are to be a good neighbor, a distrib- utor of good cheer, a moral example that you would like to have your own son or daughter follow. Don’t be afraid to be a church worker, a man interested in the welfare of others. Endorse work of this kind not only by a money contribution but give it in addition what amounts to much more,. your enthusiasm be as sys- tematic in attending church as you are in attending to your business. ‘What would become of your business if you looked after it but once a month? Ask yourself as you lean ‘back in your arm chair each evening whether or not you have kept the vision be- fore you that day. FEED THE BIRDS. Our wild birds have no organized charities to which they can turn for.aid in the winter months. The birds must be helped or thou- sands will perish. Shelters should be:built at this time and . grain placed under them. Any kind of shelter will do, providing they are placed near patches of woods and trees and left -open on the sides so that foxes, weasels and .other preda- tary apimals cannot surprise and kill the birds when feeding. A frame of sapplings on low posts close to. the ground, covered :thickly with ever- green -boughs, make an .excellent ghelter. If wild grape vines or other entanglements -of brush or trees are near they may be completely cov- ened with boughs and the best kind of ;matural feeding stations made. These shelters should be built before the. severe weather sets in so that the birds :will. get.-accustomed to being fed and they :will certainly go there when in need. ‘Wheat, barley, buckwheat-or other graips in the shock or on the straw are good. Hang up such grains, heads down, so that birds .may get it, but not-their .enemies. .. Seeds and grain may be scattered under the shelters if there ig.plenty of open space; where the.birds oan get.away; they can take care. of ;themselves -during the .day While feeding. . A .lump .of- suet ¢t fresh pork hung up onthe trees so that only the birds may reach it is greatly appreciated by our feathered’ friend during isevere ;weather. The song and insectiverous birds as well ag:the. game birds: will enjoy this. ‘-Feeding stations may be put up on posts, any rectangular shape will do; haye one end open, and place.it on a D t or rod so that it will turn. . An wing should be placed on each. slfle of the open space; the wind then turns the box or feeding station so that the open. end is always away from the wind and the snow and rain dggu not get in; this makes an ex- cellent feeding station for the smaller birds, In places where there may be ‘water, not frozen up, dur- ln_g the ydnter, and where ducks may co! grague, corn_or other whole grains thrown on the ice near tiasm -’Nflmma ot ducks: EWam. tho 10,000 | fighting is. oceurring.
