Greeas, in typiga ‘Balken ifaghion, ha been trying to play ;two sides . against teach. other and has brought. ahout an lanexpegted -crisis in Southeastern Eur- ope.-that may have a serious effect on the future fortunes of Hellenism. /| The; ministerial 3 crisis at Athens is JIW.TMasen undoubtedly due to the landing; of allied troops .on.Greek spil .for .operations against Bulgaria. The Greek government wanted this military reinforcement to be at hand in ;case Bulgaria attacked: Greece; but the ‘government didn’t want. to give formal consent to the presence of foreign troops so-that Greek neut- rality would not. be compromised if Bulgaria kept the peace.. So, appar- ently, a technical protest was.made against the allied landing, while at the same time Greek officers seem to have either privately or publicly es- sisted at the disembarkation. This equivocal attitude was un- questionably approved by Premier Venizelos. His action would be a proper course from the standpoint [ |of self-preservation, if the Greek na- tion were a unit in supporting the present ministry. But King Con- stantine believes there is a seriovs division of public opinion concern- ing the matter and this active oppo- sition has compelled Venizelos to re- sign.. Constantine’s duty now is to find a premier who can command a majority of the votes in parliament. “|1£ he is unable to do this and if he still persists in thwarting M. Veni- zelos, then the situation will change and the king must be considered a revolutionist, trying to overthrow thé Greek constitution. M. Venizelos is the leader of pan- Hellenic who wants’to see the glories of ancient Greece restored. In par- ticular he wants to annex to Greece the coast of Asia Minor, which was once Greek in population and cul- ture. This is the reward he hopes to gain from the Allies. But, there is a strong party in Greece that be- lieves Greece could not hold the Asia Minor coast because of the large gar- risons that would be necessary to keep the Turks in subjection. The majority of the Greek general staff is said to be of this opinion. No certainty exists, therefore, that M. Venizelos can dominate the pres- ent situation, TOWN SEEKS GIRL; WAS ASLEEP IN BED Grand Rapids, Minn., Oct. 7.— Grand Rapids was given a thrill of excitement when the word was given out that Flora, the 4-year-old daugh- ter of Mr. and Mrs. E.
