In a letter to the Bemidji Pioneer, H. B. Southworth of Elk .River, ‘Wash., formerly of this city, says: “If a.man has a farm in Minnesota and wants to farm, he had better stay where he is—right in Minnesota, one of the best states in the Union.” Mr. Southworth, who is a mill man, likes his new home, but for farming and agriculture, it cannot come up to our own state. The town of Elk River is-situated in a valley, and is-sur- rounded by mountains. It has about 1,200 inhabitants, two churches, af fine school building, electric lights, water-works and. sewers, besides many modern houses. It is 3,000 feet above sea level and 130 miles from Spokane. Mr. Southworth states the climate is delightful and even if the days are warm, the nights are nice and cool. Elk River is full of speckled trout and the month of April is the only month they -are prohibited from angling for the |, speckled beauties. So far Mr. South; worth has seen nothing like a prairie in that part of the state, although he has been told there are level stretches in that country. He ad¥ vises everyone who intends to sell their Minnesota property to be sure. to visit the west and see the land for themselves before disposi;lgvot their holdings. Mr. Southworth is well pleased with the saw mill business in the west and says they have a fine, electric mill and plenty of logs to saw for many years. da S CUPATION JIPBURE DRUG ‘& THERE ARE IN THESE CJ — UNITED STATES K Fair’Collector of Fares Tell Her You Want « A-First-Class‘Drug Store In A Hurry and even the hand car will stop for you.
