This camp is famous in Germany, also because of the interest the pro- fessors in the University of ' Goet- tingen ‘take in the welfare of the .prisoners. Many of them have classes in the camp and instruct the men in regular university -courses. These are open to those who wish ‘to at- tend. In the postoffice ‘today Bighteen English soldiers” were assorting mail packages which today’s post brought from England. * German - inspectors ‘were looking inside before the pack- ages were handed out to see that the camp rules regarding the receiving of ‘home articles were not broken. ‘Working in this building were two Canadians, both of whom lived in Toronto and had often visited " in Niagara Falls," Buffalo and Detroit. Leaving the camp for the raflroad station I saw ninety English sol- diers being brought in. They were among the recent captives in Flan- ders-and ‘their clothes were torn and dirty. My guide in the camp, Lieu- tenant -Gropp, ‘Who said he had a brothier-in-law, William Persson, liv- ing at 732 Belden avenue, Chicago, declared these fellows would ‘soon be given spécial baths and ordered to wash' their clothes. One of the most amusing sights in the camp was-to see five Russians taking a powder bath to kill the lice they carriéd when they arrived from the Galician front, four days . ago. These men were lying naked in this powder.” They had to stay there four hours. Then they took a sun bath and then a hot water and soap bath —for, said Lieutenant Gropp, it re- quires three different kinds of baths and sometimes more.
