The dance given at the city hall Saturday evening ‘in honor of the Bagley girls, who played basketball here, and the Brainerd team, was largely attended and proved a most enjoyable affair. Following the dance the girls were the guests of Miss Dorothy Carson until train time. Professor and Mrs. Charles Bor- chardt returned to their home in Crookston this morning, after attend- ing the North-Central Minnesota Teachers’ association convention. While in Bemidji, they were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Naugle of Bemidji avenue, Mrs. Borchardt’s parents. Mr. Borchardt is principal of the Crookston High school. Mrs. C. R. Sanborn, in writing to Bemidji friends from San Diego, California, speaks in complimentary terms of the Rowland Reed display of Indian pictures which holds a prominent position at the fair now in progress there. Many of the pie- tures shown were taken by Mr. Reed of Indians in the Bemidji territory. Mrs. Sanborn says that the San Diego fair is referred to as “The Ex- position Beautiful,” and is considered equally as complete as the San Fran- cisco world’s fair which is to open next Saturday, only much smaller. Mrs. John Lunn and sons, Robert and James, returned Friday night from St. Paul, where they have been visiting Mrs. Lunn’s parents for the past several weeks. Mr. Lunn and family will leave Bemidji in the near future for Auburn, Maine, where his brother owns a large shoe factory, in which Mr. Lunn will have an active interest. The society starts out with twelve charter members and a large number have expressed their desire to join at a later date. The afternoon was spent in making candy, which will be sold at the oyster sup- ver given by the men of the church tomorrow night in the Odd Fellow’s Lall. Carson and Deputy Special Officer Ed Belland BRINKMAN left this morning on the south bound Minnesota & International railroad passenger, their destination believed to be Laporte, where reported viola- tions of the treaty closing order will e mvest ,,Eted In speaking of the recent visit of the officers to Detroit, the Record says: Special Deputies L. W. Carson and Ed. Belland were in Detroit Tuesday morning and took charge of a suit case full of whisky, 12 quart bottles, which had been checked in from Minneapolis and the duplicate checks for which had been presented by a = liveryman named Beaupre, from Ogema. C. E. Morse, Northern Pacific agent, noticed that the suit case was of unusual weight and a brief investigation convinced him that it was filled with whisky. He refused to turn the case over to Beaupre and instead notified the fed- eral agents. The net result is the loss of 12 quarts of good whisky, a suit case worth at least $10, and a probable court trial for Mr. Beaupre.
