H. Fisk of this city. Mr. and Mrs. Lambert left Bemidji last February for Westwood where Mr. Lambert is superintendent of the logging department of the Red River Valley Lumber company. Miss Alta Fisk, a sister of Mrs. Lambert, is bookkeeper for the Red River Valley Lumber company of that city. H. Ongstad left yesterday morning for Minneapolis where he will spend a short time before going to New York City, from which place he will sail on November 24, on the Scan- dinavian line for Norway. ~Mr. Ong- stad, who has'spent the past six years in America, expects to make his fu- ture home in Norway. He is a brother of Ole Ongstad of the Be- midji Auto company and was in part- nership with him, and when he left he sold out his interest to his brother. Bemidji Pioneer office.— Adv, Mrs. Rose Atfel Schmahl, mother of Julius A. Schmahl, secretaty of state, died in Duluth Thursday night, after an illness of two days. She was 86 years old. Burial probably will be on Sunday in Redwood Falls, the old family home. Mrs. Schmahl was born in Mainz, Germany, Feb- ruary 29, 1828, (leap year), and when 12 years old went with her fa- ther to Havre, France, and therce to London, sailing from there to New York. They came west and spent some time at Galena, Ill., where they had relatives, and later to St. Paul. Terrible sufferings are being en- dured and lives lost in the Austrian hospitals because their supply of cotton is cut off and they have:ab- solutely nothing for soft dressings.
